25.01.2022 Bit of a long shot.
24.01.2022 And back again.
23.01.2022 Don't forget the meeting today.Don't forget the meeting today.
23.01.2022 The Darwin Sun are going to run a feature on the open day this week and we are on the ABC events list, The aviation events list and probably most importantly the NT Government bulletin board :-) Darwin folk (especially those south of the berrimah line) tell your friends!
23.01.2022 An approaching storm. Still no rain but it looked pretty convincing.
23.01.2022 Thanks Mark, I think......
22.01.2022 Looks like the folks on the block next to MKT are attempting again to seek approval for an airstrip that converges with the second busiest airstrip in the Top End creating a dangerous aviation cocktail. Not only that, the land was supposed to be revegetated under council order but the owner has refused to obey that order, cheekily pointing that there is no environmental impact as the land is already cleared. Go to https://www.ntlis.nt.gov.au/planning/lta.dar.list and search for Litchfield... It is about halfway down the page. Just like last time, make sure you oppose the development application on the grounds of safety and the inaccuracy of the submitted drawings which encroach into the Meyering property. You can make submissions on line.
22.01.2022 This just in from TWR APP. If you fly out of MKT please read the following. Good Morning All, Over the past few weeks there have been a number of occurrences of VFR pilots departing R18, reporting to approach that they are on runway heading. There seems to be some confusion about the departure instructions issued by tower. Off R29, aircraft will generally be auto-released (Left 250/Right 320) and therefore the reporting of the heading to approach is extremely important as it... will determine who has responsibility for separation between other aircraft (i.e. TWR or APP). As per AIP Gen 3.4 pages 66-71, aircraft should only report on a heading when specifically issued by ATC even though they will probably be tracking on ‘runway heading’ to navigate to Channel Island. When VFR aircraft are issued a heading on departure (i.e. below LSALT) the level will be appended with the term ‘Visual’ to ensure that the pilot is responsible for terrain separation. When aircraft are cleared on VFR Route 3/4/5 and are departing from R18, TWR will generally not issue specific departure instructions as the first tracking point is Channel Island, which is within 5 degrees of runway heading (177). On first contact with approach aircraft should report tracking channel island or their cleared VFR route, with their level information. This is important as approach may get confused when aircraft report on runway heading but the instructions coordinated to tower were ‘unrestricted’ (i.e. track to channel island). This will be included in the next newsletter but if you could pass this onto all of your pilots that would be fantastic. If anyone would like to come over to the ATC complex to have a chat and check out our procedures, you are more than welcome. Just give us a call on the numbers listed below to organise a time. Kind Regards, Hilly Nicholas Hill Aviation Liaison Officer Air Traffic Control 452 Squadron Darwin Flight APP: 08 8924 2363 TWR: 08 8924 2358 See more

20.01.2022 It was reported over the Christmas period that a C182 locked in its own hanger was broken into and electrical systems were were cut. Luckily the damage was to non critical system but wasn't discovered until in flight. Please check your a/c firstly for external damage and secondly wiring damage. The police said it looks as though it had been cut with a pocket knife. If you find anything suspicious please contact police first and then let us know next. I'm sorry this has happened but it might come to pass that we will have to install a gate and cameras for your a/c protection. This could also entail an increase in fees if this is found to be wide spread. OBO MKT Airfield

17.01.2022 On the 14th of August 2017 a celebration was held for Kath Meyering who was the matriarch of Ultralight Aviation in the Northern Territory as the sponsor and an active member of the Top End Flying Club for almost forty years. Always helping and supporting grass roots aviation and the flying godmother for so many pilots in the Top End. A true Territory aviation pioneer loved and respected by all in the flying community. Flying through silver clouds split by sun, always encou...raging us all to have fun and keeping the wind beneath our wings. Thank you for making a difference to so many people. These photographs were taken on the day of Kath's final send off at the club that holds her dear to their heart.

14.01.2022 This is what it looks like to land an ultralight at Darwin International Airport... which I did on Sunday. Thanks go to Darwin Aviation Museum for hosting... C...ASA and RAAF Air Traffic Control for permissions and the friendly security team who guided us through the gates. Thanks to Tim and Jada from our side for organising and John and Fiona for being part of this great event which raises money for Legacy... a great support organisation for Service Families. I will be posting a video of the flight in which took a slightly different route down Tiger Brennan, then the Stuart Highway before a right turn onto Bagot Road and then another right turn at Mcdonalds... Instructions were... If you reach Bunnings, you've gone too far! (For the concerned our instructions were in fact a little more formal than that)
14.01.2022 The solar car challenge crews are assembling in Darwin and MKT is hosting trials by the Belgian team. Two years ago the Cambdrige team used MKT to test their car and ensure their drivers had enough practice before embarking on the gruelling drive to Adelaide. Great for MKT Airfield to be able to assist in this renewable energy science challenge. This is the Belgian solar car on MKT Airstrip conducting trials this week.
14.01.2022 Kath received a great letter from the department confirming MKT Airfield's status as an aerodrome in perpetuity... It has only taken 35 years to establish what we have always believed. Now with meetings planned with NT Airports it is time to explore more strategic directions for MKT and provide some certainty to the large numbers of pilots who operate from MKT. Our community is blessed with professional construction, planning, engineering and related experience which has pro...vided a sustainable foundation for new visitors and members at MKT. Not being a FaceBook expert, it appears that if you "like" things, this page gets a boost which in turn opens up more ways I can provide information or share more widely. I hope this is a good thing... The post about hangar lots increased this site's readership by over %2000 in a week which scarily shows the power of this medium. So I really appreciate your readership and my personal reasons for promoting MKT is to continue to be able to hangar my little drifter at MKT and push it out on Sundays for a flight around Darwin. Speaking of which, here is a photo of Blue Rockholes at Gunn Point taken on one such flight from a few years ago. https://picasaweb.google.com//U1EUohRZqigJkpPRtW0chWNHdtbp and one taken a few weeks ago of turtle tracks on Bare Sand Island as we are a height of the egg laying season. Bare Sand Island is a reserve and it was great to see so many tracks. https://picasaweb.google.com//f1bFlO9fJTx78G8WeobATAusY0Zz

10.01.2022 I have removed the video of the Harvard as some feel it may compromise the piolet his licence and I didn't seek his permission. I am sorry that a simple fly by is considered daring and dangerous these days but in my humble opinion there was nothing radical in what was done. In my humble opinion.
10.01.2022 Some of the older MKT pictures I discovered recently.

03.01.2022 Christmas is coming to MKT next weekend. Yes sorry for short notice. Bring the Billy lids to meet Father Christmas coming from the north pole for his pre Christmas round of engagements. He has to be quick as he has a lot of kids to catch up with so can you please get here no later than 6pm. We don't want him flying out in the dark. Dinner is afterwards so stick around for a meal and a drink. Hope to see you all here Saturday the 24th December.
