25.01.2022 Make today happy As part of R U OK? Day our students came together for wellness activities as a way to reflect on their own mental wellbeing as well as supporting their friends and peers. The students started the day planting flower pots outdoors, they shared thoughtful cards with each other and took some time for mindfulness. At recess and lunch they made a mural and danced together on the Great Court. It was wonderful to see all of our students come together to recognise this important day. #ruok #wellbeing #wellness

21.01.2022 Staff Spotlight Introducing Ariane Salomone, Dance Teacher, Years 1-6 Speech and Drama Coordinator and Mentor My favourite part about teaching at MLC is the fantastic group of girls. They are extremely willing to learn and explore further beyond the curriculum. I became a teacher because I developed a passion for studying practical subjects when I was at school and university. I felt I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and have benefited from building my confidence... and performance skills, which I now use every day. I wanted every girl to have this same experience. I am very excited to be taking on the role of Speech and Drama Coordinator for 2021. The programme is designed to develop confidence in communication, the skills to read effectively, speak with clarity, and make presentations to a variety of audiences. The development of speech and drama is a leading passion of mine. The enhancement of communication skills and confidence in performance will benefit the girls’ everyday lives. One of my favourite moments at MLC so far would be my involvement in the Heather Lamont Festival this year. It was a ‘Pitch Perfect’ dance routine which involved more than 30 staff members. There were many secret rehearsals at lunchtime (as this was a surprise) to make sure it was hilariously embarrassing and ready for performance! I will always remember the girls’ screams and cheerful smiles as we entered the stage. See more

14.01.2022 Staff Spotlight Introducing Vennessa Paul, Year 4 Teacher "From day one at MLC I felt I had become a part of something special. I instantly felt connected to the community. My absolute favourite part of being a teacher is building a positive family-oriented culture within, and outside, the classroom where we all support, inspire, encourage and challenge each other to take risks, to take a leap and to try different things. I encourage my students to appreciate that with mis...takes comes an opportunity to learn, so dont be afraid to make any. If I provide them with the right amount of support, encouragement, inspiration, determination and a desire to succeed, they can set goals and meet them. I want the girls to feel a sense of deep-seated pride which motivates them to continue setting and achieving goals. Every morning I greet each girl with a smile. Every afternoon I farewell each girl with a smile. In between these times, I strive to provide my girls with a vibrant, innovative, creative and inspirational role model, so they see what a person who loves what they do looks like, sounds like and feels like." 02.01.2022 Staff Spotlight Introducing Kathryn Keen, Drama Teacher I grew up on the campus of a boys’ school and my parents were teachers, so teaching is in my blood. Having full access to the entire campus, particularly the theatre, whenever I wanted was also very special and I obnoxiously and enthusiastically used all facilities as though they belonged to me! Now as a teacher, I love sharing my passion with young people. The best part of my job is that I get to explore the act of w...onder every day, both as a teacher and a theatre lover. Both aspects of my job combine the essential thing that makes me most excited about life; sharing experiences about the wonder of the world. Directing the 2020 College Production, This Girls Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing, is one of my favourite moments from my time here so far. The whole College Production had to be completely rethought and redesigned to suit the 2020 climate, and as a result, we produced something quite different. The girls and the staff involved were so talented, innovative and creative and it was a joy to lead this. See more
