25.01.2022 As the NT Government are in the midst of providing clarity around the ability for resource industry FIFOs to continue, I encourage all resource companies to fully explore local supply capability and all options before making the decision to close. Personnel having to be quarantined for 14 days before being able to work will create massive challenges and I fear closures of many operations. Unfortunately, the big Miners we have here in the NT do have a large number of interstat...e FIFO staff and they will not be able to operate without them in the short term. However in times like this we need to be innovative and look at all options before closing operations. I.e. if FIFO has the 14 day rule applied can the closure of one mine supplement another 2 or 3 mines with its employees so it can stay open? Can rosters be extended to achieve coverage? Can R&R for FIFOs be mandated to the NT, so staff remain available and we support the ailing tourism industry? Can an increasing local unemployed workforce be engaged to maintain the operations of mines? Last year at a presentation to the Mining Club one big miner admitted their local workforce is at approximately 40% and I know other operations that also have very high numbers of interstate FIFO. Having to close and sacrifice local jobs and suppliers and subcontractors livelihoods and businesses is not acceptable because miners didnt develop a local workforce in good times. Every option must be explored before closure. See more

23.01.2022 This trailer has just got its latest paint job. This was in the company when Terry & Evelyn Pike bought the business back in 1993. We think it is the last thing still going that was in the original purchase when the company was primarily focussed on maintenance contract at Cosmo Howley Gold Mine. Then it was filled with relining tools as Terry ran a reline crew throughout the Territory and has been used on many shutdowns and projects since then. It is also in this picture we often use below in our marketing and is hanging in our reception area.

15.01.2022 Putting family in family business. I can’t explain how proud Michael and I are to be a part of this family business and family. I’d like to introduce you to our temporary storeman Terry Pike and accounts officer Evelyn Pike. These two Should be and deserve to be retired but due to a few maternity leaves in our accounts/admin and the departure of a long term and valued storeman we are in need of some short-term support. So, MMC owners and our parents simply just step up to fi...ll the void. This for me just epitomizes who we are as a family and family business. God help the apprentice that brings back to the store a drill bit that has been used with no lubricant or someone in the office tries to sneak an extra high lighter out of the stationary cupboard. The best thing here is they won’t be filling out a timesheet and if they did, I would definitely not be paying. I think they are secretly enjoying it and feeling the love. I remember as teenagers the old man used to get us to come to work on holidays and weekends in the workshop, or even sneak us on a site job. Once I had to pretend, I was Michael because I was underage. Mum would get us to do the fun tasks like filing and reconciliations. Good to see things go full circle. But I don’t think Dad will be doing that site job as he is yet to wear hi vis in his entire life. This is family business. Owen Pike.

10.01.2022 Good to see the Santos sign up already up down at East Arm. Although Santos have been active down at Beetaloo it is good to see their sign on a shed for the Darwin LNG project. ConocoPhillips were definitely a great contributor to the NT during construction and operations for the Bayu Undan project and we look forward to Santos continuing this for the Barossa and Beetaloo. Gotta love the NT being back in SANTOS
09.01.2022 Dear Michael Gunner, This week my families 100% NT owned business is paying our monthly pay roll tax bill of $75,000. We simply cannot retain employees in the current situation if this tax continues. This Pay roll tax is for the privilege of employing 146 personnel and the tax is 5.5% of the wages including super for a 1-month period only. I note the many times in the past 2 weeks of this crisis the amount of times you have stated your priority is to protect Territorians jobs. If you want to protect Territorians jobs you need to stop taxing business now for employing people NOW!. Mass sacking are about to occur and pay roll tax will magnify the issue.
