24.01.2022 MILDURA SCAM ALERT!!! Residents and businesses in the Mildura/Sunraysia area are being asked to be aware of a current computer SCAM. In this Scam victims are b...eing contacted by phone or email and told that their computer speed is running slow and that they are at extreme risk of being hacked within the next 2 hours. The caller will often claim to be from a reputable company or Government agency. The victims are then asked to download an App to assist in protecting their computer. The App then gives the Caller/Hacker remote access to their computer and their details. The Caller/Hacker then create a screen giving the appearance that they have deposited a sum of money into the victims account to assist them further to protect their computer. The victims are then asked to withdraw the money and deposit it into various accounts, commonly Western Union accounts as part of the deal. The money being withdrawn/transferred is actually that of the victim. This money is transferred overseas by Western Union which becomes difficult to trace. These Hackers are from all over the world. The Caller/Hacker also has the potential to further access Bank accounts, Passwords and personal details of the victim. Police are appealing to the public to firstly be aware of the Scam. Do not download Apps you are unsure of and never give personal details including Bank Accounts, Dates of Birth, License numbers etc to persons where their credentials cannot be guaranteed.

22.01.2022 NBN IS NEAR. NBN Broadband is close. Installation is now nearing completion. Narooma is due for completion by the end of June, Dalmeny due by August. Kianga will be ready somewhere in between. Narooma, Kianga and Dalmeny will be nbn FTTC technology. This is different to the rural areas around Narooma fixed wireless.... Fibre to the Curb is a new access technology that will form part of the nbn broadband access network rollout to provide access to broadband services to Australian homes and businesses. An nbn FTTC connection is used in circumstances where fibre is extended close to your premises, connecting to a small Distribution Point Unit (DPU), generally located inside a pit on the street. From here, the existing copper network is connected to the fibre to form the final nbn connection. To power your FTTC service with electricity and provide your connection to the nbn broadband access network, an FTTC nbn connection box will be required inside your home or business. In some cases, you may be eligible to perform self-installation of the nbn connection box. (see photo below) Some of your existing devices may not be compatible with the nbn access network. Medical, Fire and/or security alarm in your designated FTTC premises. This may mean it will stop working once you switch to FTTC. Its important to talk to your device provider for advice and to find out if your device or service will work on the nbn access network, and what alternatives may be available. Make sure you register your medical, fire and/or security alarm device with nbn. Registering helps nbn identify premises where support may be needed to help minimise a break in service. You can register via 1800 227 300. As customers, you can contact your existing ISP (internet service provider) to register your changeover to the nbn. Or choose to go with one of a number of providers available. Once the nbn is activated, you will have 18 months to change over to nbn before the ADSL is turned off and decomissioned. If you need help setting up your new nbn service or would like further advice on what to do and what's available, call to make an appointment with me on 0428 525 493.

20.01.2022 The NILE Virus (Type C) I thought you would want to know about this virus. Even the most advanced computer programs from Norton, McAfee, and others cannot take care of this one.... It appears to target those who were born prior to 1955. The lockdown seems to be increasing the chances of being affected! Virus Symptoms 1. Causes you to send the same e-mail twice. (Done that) 2. Causes you to send a blank e-mail. (That too) 3. Causes you to send an e-mail to the wrong person. (Yup) 4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you. (Ah-ha) 5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment. (Done that) 6. Causes you to hit SEND before you've finished. (Oh no, not again) 7. Causes you to hit DELETE instead of SEND. (Hate that) 8. Causes you to hit SEND when you should DELETE. (Heck, now what?) This virus is called the C-NILE virus! A lot of us have already been inflicted with this deadly disease and unfortunately as we age it gets worse. And if you can't admit to doing any of the above, you've obviously caught the other strain - the deadly D-NILE virus

19.01.2022 This info is no longer current - check our most recent post Visitors welcomed back to Eurobodalla Brilliant news for our local businesses from Far South... Coast Rural Fire Service. Read on... Tourists encouraged to return to the Far South Coast - 11 January 2020 Tourists are encouraged to start returning to the villages and towns along the Far South Coast as weather conditions improve. The Clyde Mountain fire has been burning in the Eurobodalla area for the past six weeks, reaching over 83,000 hectares in size. The Badja Forest fire has been burning in the Snowy Monaro/Eurobodalla/Bega Valley area for the past two weeks, reaching over 237,000 hectares in size. The Werri Berri fire has been burning in the Bega Valley area for the past two weeks, reaching over 21,200 hectares in size. The Border fire has been burning in the Bega Valley area for the past two weeks, reaching over 156,000 hectares in size. These fires have significantly affected the local residents and communities. Fridays hot and windy conditions caused some increase to fire activity across the fire ground however Firefighters were able to respond quickly and prevent any major outbreaks. The weather for the next seven days is predicted to be more favourable with the chance of showers later in the week. Although there is still significant amounts of fire across the area the risk has eased and there are many villages and towns that are now safe for people to visit. Local Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Emergency Operations Controllers and the RFS Incident Controller would like to encourage visitors to return to the area and help the communities get back on their feet. Inspector Angus Barnes said Firefighters and support agencies will continue work to contain and recover from the fires over coming weeks and months. There are many areas that are now safe for people to visit. We encourage visitors to make contact with their accommodation providers to confirm they are open for business. While enjoying your time in the Far South Coast we ask that you stay up to date using Fires Near Me and Live Traffic applications. NSW Police reminded visitors to Observe road closures and respect the privacy of residents who have lost homes by avoiding fire effected areas. There are numerous coastal villages ready and waiting to welcome visitors. Local holiday parks and accommodation providers are asked to review their systems of monitoring weather conditions and changes in the fire situation so that they can ensure their guests are well informed and stay safe whilst visiting the area. Visitors should note that all National Parks will remain closed until the 1st of February 2020. Fires Near Me Live Traffic

The more faults registered the quicker their response. I have received over 40 calls this morning asking if l know of any outages.... Please call and register your fault. If you have no lights on your modem, then it may have been fried in lsst mights storm. Call me if you need any further assistance on 0428 525 493. FYI my internet is down also. See more

09.01.2022 Windows 7 Support Ends January 14, 2020 Windows 7 is due to reach End Of Life (EOL) on 14 January 2020, but a large number of the world's computers, most in corporate environments, are still running the nine-year-old system. Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 in January 2015, with extended support running till 14 January 2020. Businesses which fail to migrate in time will be saddled with high fees for further support from Microsoft.... This End of Life means no more bug-fixes, security patches or new functionality, making any user - personal or enterprise - significantly more susceptible to malware attacks. Just as it did with Windows XP, Microsoft will continue to offer support for those Windows 7 users still reluctant to upgrade to its Windows 10 OS, but it'll cost you However, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from using Windows 7 even after its End of Life. But you should know that using an outdated operating system makes your computer vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Windows 7 was the version of Windows most widely affected by WannaCry in 2017. Without patches, Windows 7 is still vulnerable to the recently disclosed BlueKeep bug and several other flaws that Microsoft patched in August. How Big is the Security Threat? We have seen security threads coming from outdated Operating Systems, unpatched vulnerabilities and so on. The longer your company waits with updating their systems, the bigger the risk becomes of a potentially costly attack. Don't wait, update now. Call me for update options.

09.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE As the virus is at our door step, l have put in place measures to ensure the safety of my clients and myself. * l will ask if you have been overseas or in contact with some who has within the past 14 days.... * l will wear gloves and mask whilst working on your equipment * l will disinfect your equipment once l have finished. I have ceased work outside our postcode so as l do not get exposed to the virus. If you have self quarantined and still require assistance, l can remotely fix any software issues as long as you are connected to the internet. I can assist with signing up to online streaming subscription sites such as Netflix, Stan, Disney +, SBS On demand, Catchup Tv etc. As well, if you need to drop off your computer for repairs, l will let you know a safe drop off and pickup point to allow the safe exchange. The only issue at the moment is that some supply shortages due to the import/export delays and the manufacture of some parts made in China. The availability of some computer models may be also low due to the high demand of business allowing employees to work from home. Just give me a call on 0428 525 493 to discuss your options. Just like during the recent fires, our community is strong, will stick together and will celebrate when it is all over. Stay safe, look after one another and look after your mental health. Cheers Mal Barry

05.01.2022 ADSL ISSUES IN NAROOMA. There is currently an outage of the ADSL service effecting quite alot of users in Narooma and surrounding areas. This effects not only Telstra services/customers, but other providers as well. The outage was detected on the 1st of April and was scheduled for completion on the 12th April. This was not rectified and there is no fix date as yet. ... Not all customers are effected. My services isnt, however my neighbor is and we are both with telstra. If your ADSL is out, contact your ISP (internet service provider) and make arrangements to have additional data to be placed on your smart device (phone or tablets) and hotspot the internet to your other devices eg. Computers, tvs etc. I arranged an additional 10gb of data for my neighbor at no cost until the outage is fixed. If that 10gb is used it will be topped up until which time the ADSL is fixed. You are also entitled to compensation on your account for NO service as well. Contact your provider and don't take No for an answer. If you're paying for a service you are entitled to be connected. If you are a Telstra customer call 133933 and ask for disconnections, they are located in Adelaide and their job is to keep you as a Telstra customer and will give you deals not available by the offshore sales centre's. If you don't have any luck with your service provider contact the telecommunications industry ombudsmen on 1800 062 058 or www.tio.com.au Also, the telephone services at Mystery Bay are effected due to a lightning strike to the sytem and the Telstra technicians are having issues with getting approval for the replacement parts. If you are in Mystery Bay and don't have phone service (landline) get in touch with the ombudsmen as well.
