14.01.2022 Today, in Malta is Victory Day (or Otto settembre) and is a public holiday. It recalls the end of three historical sieges made on the archipelago, namely: the Great Siege of Malta by the Turkish Empire ending in 1565; the Siege of Valletta by the French Blockade ending in 1800; and, the Siege of Malta during the Second World War by the Italian army ending in 1943. This day also coincides with the commemoration of the birth of the Virgin Mary, better known as the Nativity, which feast is celebrated in the villages of Senglea, Naxxar, and Mellieha in Malta, and Xagra in Gozo. It is locally known as il-Vitorja (the Victory) and il-Bambina (Baby Mary).

02.01.2022 The St.Albans Melita Band and Malta Gozo Concert Band were once rivals, now they work together, with the mission to ensure that the Maltese culture and its traditions are preserved through music here in Australia. We’re now pleased to formalise our amalgamation with the closing down of both these pages. We look forward to continuing the love and culture that came from these bands through the MMG Concert Band of Victoria. The current Facebook pages for the St Albans Melita B...and and the Malta Gozo Concert Band will merge with MMG Concert Band of Victoria.
