09.01.2022 I spoke with a Planner from City of Sydney today. She had not heard of the sale until I rang. She said that the GP has a Mixed Use zoning which means it can hav...e a broad range of uses, but an Application would have to go in to transform it. And certainly a Development Application would have to be submitted if any renovations were to take place. Both of these Applications would be a chance for the community to have it's say on how the change would affect us. St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney would also have to outline how their new usage would impact the community and local businesses. As yet, no Applications have been made and we don't know what their planned timeline is. Here are my thoughts about how we can make ourselves heard going forward: 1. Make our disappointment respectfully known to St Vincent's about their planned change and how it will negatively effect the community and surrounding business. (To be clear, none of us seem to be against Mental Health services, but rather we think there are other empty premises in the area that could be used rather than the most thriving Public House in the area.) I will gather some email addresses of how we can best contact St Vincent's. Feel free to chime in in the comments if you have any contacts. 2. Write to our local City of Sydney Councillors expressing the community significance of this Pub in particular and its importance in the economy of Darlinghurst. 3. Reaching out to local businesses in the vicinity to gauge their reactions. I imagine many of the restaurants hate the thought of losing the pub which attracts a lot of people to the street. I will draft up a letter that we can send around. 4. We can start a petition. I am happy to do this if people think it's a good idea. I'll rustle up some email addresses for all of the above and post a list in the coming days. Feel free to add them below. Add any thoughts you have in the comments. Also, leave comments about this campaign in general. Should we be fighting this fight? Is it enough to express our disappointment and leave it at that? Are we keen to let the Hospital and Council know that we think this space should remain a Public House? Gus :)

Posted @withregram ... @aaa_ausarchitecture @ Home with Marston Architects This Sunday we will be visiting the suburb of Manly and opening an amazing house by @marstonarchitects who is a Sydney based studio with over 30 years’ experience. Consistency, honesty and a broad sense of public responsibility underpin the work of the practice. Principle architects Vivian Marston and Pip Marston will lead the tour through this wonderful home that was centred around the need to better relate an existing 1930s building to its site and encourage better use of external spaces. It is located on an interesting site, with a main street frontage and a rear lane located 4m above the street level. The original home was built into a high retaining wall with no access to the rear garden other than via a side stair. At some point in time, a further addition was built which made the relationship between the inside and outside worse. The poorly constructed rear addition has been replaced with a high quality build which included a new dining area at ground level with a roof garden over, a new rumpus room, utility rooms a and double garage accessed via the rear lane. The northern side of the site was devoted to outdoor usable area and includes a large courtyard at the ground level and a pool at the upper level with access between these two spaces via a new brick staircase.
