23.01.2022 Do you employ apprentices or trainees? The government package includes cash rebates for employers of apprentices being 50% of wages paid up to a limit of $7000 per quarter per apprentice. As always there are rules around the payments. The big one is YOU MUST APPLY for the rebate. Applications open early April. Speak to your local apprenticeship network for further details.
23.01.2022 It is good to see the jobkeeper cash has started to hit clients bank accounts. Hopefully it will help out a lot of small businesses and sole traders at this time. Please be aware you only need to qualify once. If you are lucky and bounce back with sales over June/July period you will still receive jobkeeper as well. These are the rules at the moment, they are subject to change at the governments whim. If you need help with jobkeeper applications please call.
22.01.2022 I have had a few phone calls asking when do I get my next jobkeeper payment? It is paid monthly in arrears not automatically each fortnight. This is the last week for applying for jobkeeper payments for April. Confirmation process for May payments will open next week and close 14th June.
20.01.2022 A question we are asked a lot. Is the sale of farm land gst free? There is a provision in the GST legislation covering the sale of farm land and yes it can be gst free if you meet ALL of the provisions.... GST can be a very large number on a farm land sale so it pays to have a conversation with your local accountant before you get too far down the track on a property transaction and be sure of exactly where you stand. Questions your accountant should know or ask you are Firstly is the seller registered for gst or required to be registered? What is the purchasers intention for the land? Farm business or hobby lifestyle? Has it previously been farmed for the last 5 years? Only then can the question be answered.
20.01.2022 Gearing up to lodge? Make sure your income statement is marked as ‘tax ready’ before lodging. Most employers have until 31 July to finalise your income statemen...t, but we’ll let you know when it’s ready through your myGov inbox. If you do lodge before your income statement is ‘tax ready’, you may need to amend your tax return and, in some cases, additional tax may be payable. You can lodge your tax return using myTax via myGov on any device, or using a registered tax agent. For more info, visit www.ato.gov.au//Working-as/Accessing-your-payment-summary/
18.01.2022 Amazing what is out in the local community. Keep up the good work girls!
15.01.2022 Employers you must do a single touch payroll finalisation process after submitting their final pay for June and reconciling wages for the year. This must be completed by 14th July for employers with more than 20 staff and 31 July for smaller employers. This is instead of preparing group certificates. Employees please do not lodge your tax return until the pay details on MyGov have a tax ready status.
14.01.2022 Gst BAS returns and payg instalments for the December quarter have a later due date than normal being the 28th February. Please don’t procrastinate and put it off until the last day. If you know you will be paying less tax this year and want to vary your payg instalment, it needs to be completed and lodged prior to 28th February. You cannot lodge a variation late.
13.01.2022 With end of financial year fast approaching you only have a few days left to make superannuation contributions if you want the tax deduction this year. 11.01.2022 Just a note to say we are open for business with a skeleton staff in office and others working from home. Visiting clients and face to face interviews have been suspended. We are fielding a lot of phone calls from worried business owners. It is good to hear from you and provide some answers to your questions. Keep the calls coming! Instead of coming into the office consider taking a photo of a document and emailing or texting it to us. We do have a secure portal that fi...les and documents can be uploaded to. Give us a ring and we will set you up a login. We also have a collection table for documents to be dropped in to us and a mail slot in the door for after hours drop offs. In this environment it is time to embrace technology. To all our clients please stay safe. We look forward to shaking your hand when this is over.
11.01.2022 We have had an extremely busy 2 weeks with jobkeeper applications. An extension has been granted so there is still time to apply for April. For businesses to qualify for jobkeeper payments for staff and/or one of the business owners you need to be able to demonstrate or predict at least a 30% fall in turnover as well as meet other conditions. If we have missed anyone please give us a ring, it has not been intentional. Payments are expected to start next week and are paid monthly in arrears.
10.01.2022 Last night was the Euroa Chamber of Commerce late night trading night. The weather was hot! Thankyou to all those shops who stayed open for the evening and the traders who set up tables on the sidewalk. Also thankyou to those shoppers who braved the heat and came out to support the local businesses. MMK sponsored the present wrapping table which received gold coin donations.... MMK has matched those donations and is pleased to forward $100 to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation See more

07.01.2022 The ATO has written to employers who have not made a submission under STS payroll reporting. If you are yet to report, it is time to talk to an accountant about your options. It may be easier to comply than you think, especially if you have less than 5 employees.

03.01.2022 Superannuation guarantee amnesty - are your payments up to date? The legislation for the once off amnesty to catch up late payments from prior to May 2018 is still in the pipeline. If you wish to take advantage of the amnesty get your paperwork in order because you will only have a 6 month window to get things right. That includes paying up the shortfall including interest! After that the ATO will be taking a tough stance on employers not meeting their super guarantee obligations. And big brother is watching.
