15.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning has been issued for DAMAGING WINDS across Tasmania - Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts of Western, North East and Central North Forecast Districts. Issued at 4:42 am Friday, 2 October 2020. DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS ACROSS EASTERN, SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL TASMANIA DURING FRIDAY.... Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover. Weather Situation: Wind gusts over 100 km/h have been recorded at Mt Wellington, Hartz Mountains, Scotts Peak and Maatsuyker Island and over 90 km/h at Low Rocky Point A strong northwesterly airstream develops over Tasmania early Friday as a slow-moving cold front approaches from the west. DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 50 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 to 100 km/h, are possible across parts of eastern, southern and central Tasmania during Friday. The damaging winds are expected to develop early Friday, prevail for most of the day, then ease Friday evening. Wind gusts in-excess of 100 km/h are possible about high terrain. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Supervise children closely. * Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings. * Manage pets and livestock. * Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment. * Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004. * Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving. * Listen to local radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEST Friday.

12.01.2022 11:30am UPDATE: Sadly Tasmania Police report that a body found near the boat ramp at Slopen main this morning is believed to be that of a 19 year old kayaker that went missing yesterday. Our thoughts are with the man's family, friends and all those involved in the search. ... *** 6am 2/10/20 UPDATE: Tasmania Police are concerned for the welfare of 19-year-old from Roches Beach. The man was reported by his friends as being overdue from a kayaking trip at 5.30pm Thursday after setting off from Lauderdale Yacht Club Roches Beach at 11am. He had the intention of travelling to Lime Bay possibly along the Seven Mile Beach and Carlton Beach coastline in a green ‘sit-on-top’ style kayak An extensive search from the air and water is currently underway in Frederick Henry Bay involving the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, two marine vessels and the Dodges Ferry Volunteer Marine Rescue Unit. The large police vessel Police Vessel Cape Wickman also joined the search last night. Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the man at any stage on Thursday. Police made contact last night with the occupant of a white vehicle that was at the man's house at Roches Beach yesterday in an attempt to get more information about Valentine’s travel plans. Anyone with information on the man's whereabouts is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444.
