25.01.2022 If you had a lot of bread and cake forced on you last week, it was thanks to this lady and her other half, Neil. Neil and Cynthia got in contact with their local Coles AND Bakers Delight asking them to donate some bread, resulting in a literal car load of bread turning up on Friday morning! We managed to distribute all of it however, to over 60 temporary visa holders and their families in Melbourne last week. Thank you!

24.01.2022 We've got a great group of #richmondmums from Richmond Primary School who are busy baking and making things for our visa holders, like these great reusable hessian bags! Thank you Louise and Co! xxx #richmond3121

24.01.2022 Thank you very much to Erin from Burnley Backyard for dropping off a box of beautiful locally grown, freshly picked greens for our temporary visa holders. Of particular interest were the Warrigal Greens, a native Australian edible which has sprung into popularity in recent years. Erin said "it is very easy to grow, the whole plant is edible but the stems can be a little tough. Prepare it as you would Kale". Thanks for the tip Erin!

23.01.2022 We see A LOT of International Students on Friday mornings at St Stephen's, each with their own story. Luckily there are some great community initiatives helping out this particular group during these tough times. We thank everyone for their weekly donations to the MMRP so that we can do the same! https://www.theguardian.com//international-students-turn-t

22.01.2022 Here is one of our lovely volunteers Ange setting up our pantry for tomorrows food parcel distribution! We have a great team of volunteers and this program just would not run without you all, so thank you xxx

22.01.2022 If you have a bit of spare cash and want to buy some Melbourne made pasta/ candles/ pet portraits/ Filipino bread/ Balanese food or many other interesting treats then check out this website and help support someone who is doing it seriously tough right now! Dani Valent has been busy promoting out of work visa holders various side hustles, so why not try something on this page instead of Uber Eats next time you want to order takeout? #buylocal ... https://danivalent.com/news/visaholderhustles/

21.01.2022 To the gentleman who has been donating a bag on gnocchi- this is who it goes to and this is how happy you made her! Franca is from Italy and was like a kid on Christmas morning when we asked if she would like some gnocchi to take home. Apparently it's a good brand- this is what she made with it! (Also on a side note this is how to REALLY smile with your eyes when you wear a mask!)

20.01.2022 Richmond, you guys are just fabulous. Thank you mystery donator! xxx #3121

20.01.2022 Last week we helped out 30+ individuals and families with a grocery bag and we are expecting more this week! If you would like to help from your couch we are taking monetary donations in order to buy more fresh fruit, veggies and culturally appropriate items. Email [email protected] for more info

18.01.2022 Thank you to local Naomi, who donated a heap of toiletries to our temporary visa holders. There were a lot of men who were happy to (finally) get their hands on a razor! If you would like to donated anything please feel free to pop in to St Stephen's Church between 9- 1pm Thursdays and Fridays, 360 Church Street Richmond.

17.01.2022 Big shout out to Inner North Community Foundation for granting us some Hagen's Organics vouchers for our temporary visa holders! Here is one of the recipients, Kimwel, (who is an international student) happily receiving his parcel. The Inner North Community Foundation turns the donations they receive into an investment fund. From this they provide grants for local charities such as ours, which goes directly towards supporting local people- as you see here! Check out their Facebook Page or website if you want to learn more and to make a donation. http://www.innernorthfoundation.org.au/

17.01.2022 BIG THANKYOU to everyone who has very generously donated money to us! The money allows us to purchase seasonal fruit and veggies to add to our weekly parcels. We purchase from a local family fruit and veg company, so your donation also helps them out a little bit as well. #supportlocal

16.01.2022 Last week we managed to clear out all our supplies, including our fridge packed to the brim with fresh fruit and veggies. Stocks are replenished for this week so please get in touch if you need food! Email [email protected] or get in touch via messenger (thank you for the very neat fridge arrangement Ange!)

16.01.2022 We are very lucky to have such generous donors in 3121 and surrounds! These vouchers will help us to feed literally households full of people into next year. It is truly heart warming to witness such generosity week in, week out

15.01.2022 How lovely is this little note that was left for one of our volunteers! How lovely is this little note that was left for one of our volunteers!

14.01.2022 Fr Jim and Neil keeping warm under the heater last Friday and welcoming our temporary visa holders into the Church (they were smiling under those masks!) We'd like to thank all our volunteers for the work you do. This program just wouldn't work with you! And to St Bart's, St Stephen's and 3121 community, just give yourselves a pat on the back as to date you've helped to feed over 100 familes and individuals from all over Melbourne!

13.01.2022 For those of you who got some lovely Bakers Delight bread in your packs last week, it was one part of our volunteering team, Glenis and Don, who arranged that for you! Thank you to them and to Bakers Delight who gifted us so much lovely fresh bread.

13.01.2022 A large part of the MMRP during Stage 4 lockdown is the referral service we offer, which helps people access food relief in their area. We often refer people in the Darebin area to JJ's Community Support JJs Community Support is operated by Jesse who has set up a community food table in his front garden that is open and stocked every day! He is working full time, yet still finds the time to do this for his community. From the generous donations of our 3121 community we have managed to share the love and have passed on surplus stock when we have had it, to help Jesse when his stocks are a bit low. What a champion!

09.01.2022 Our Food Bank is now open Saturday mornings too! 9am- 11am every Saturday from this Saturday September 12th. We're the church with the red gates but enter via the back of the church (pictured here). Please get in touch if you would like to pick up a food parcel on either day or email [email protected]

08.01.2022 FareShare chefs hard at work making fresh pastries that are part of our weekly Friday food packages! More stock added every week. There is PLENTY to go around so come and see us! 10am- 12pm St Stephen's Church 3121

07.01.2022 Here are a couple of our participants about to eat a home-cooked, freshly baked, just out of the oven Brownie! Some of the parents of children from Richmond Primary have very kindly offered to bring baked treats for our temporary visa holders on Fridays. As you can see they were very much appreciated!

05.01.2022 Hello everyone! Now that we are hitting the 2 month mark, people are starting to run out of cash and are starting to struggle to pay their rent. Extending the relief package to temporary visa holders would be an ABSOLUTE LIFELINE to this group right now. Please sign and/ or share. https://www.change.org/p/scott-morrison-extend-covid-19-rel

03.01.2022 The MMRP isn't just about food relief! We set this initiative up at the start of the COVID crisis with the aim to meet the changing needs of temporary visa holders during these turbulent times. Without government support, one pressing need for this group is the need to obtain paid employment. St Bart's Cafe - A Social Enterprise is a supported workplace that will train people and help them gain the skills they need in order to confidently apply for paid work in the hospital...ity industry. We are on the lookout for volunteers to help with the day to day running of the Café along with people looking to take part in the more structured 8 week training program. The Café is due to open once restrictions allow. If you are interested in either volunteering or taking part in the training please get in touch with Rachael to find out more.
