19.01.2022 The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will next month hear the appeal of TNRL in the latest chapter of a bitter 12-month dispute between Tongan authorities and International Rugby League (IRL). 13.01.2022 Twenty-two rugby league clubs attended the meeting and recognised TMTRL as the governing body of rugby league in Tonga. 03.01.2022 Story via @foxleague - Sika [Manu] was probably the first player in his prime to elect to play for Tonga when he was still a chance of playing for New Zealand,... Woolf says. - His decision was with a lot less fanfare, and he’s such a genuine person and a leader, he’s not a loud speaker but when he does speak what he says is strong. - The standout for me was when in 2014 we played in PNG in Lae, PNG paid all our expenses to make it happen. PNG is not necessarily a destination and therefore a lot of players made themselves unavailable, but Sika and Ukuma Ta’ai came and they didn’t care where we played. - It was probably the toughest trip I’ve ever been a part of. We got met at the airport by armed guards, the field is surrounded by barbed wire and it was incredibly humid, but the way those two guys led the group that week and stood up to PNG in tough conditions, that’s how you earn respect. - Manu’s commitment to the cause, was an inspiration for a new wave of youngsters such as Sio Siua Taukeiaho and Solomone Kata. While Manu’s switch from the Kiwis to Tonga had amassed little media backlash, what was brewing behind the scenes would cause an almighty storm. - It began with Taumalolo.... - Similar to my post I made a couple of weeks ago about wanting to learn more about Tonga’s journey to beating Australia. - @foxleague has written a fantastic article detail the journey & unsung hero’s. Head over & check it out. // #blokeinabar See more
