24.01.2022 Only a month to go to the WALK TO DFEET MND and we need some unusual items this year to follow our COVID - 19 safety plans. Keeping our walkers and wheelers safe is our NUMBER 1 objective. Do you have traffic cones (witches hats) and/or bunting we could borrow? We need to put these up around strategic areas and want to avoid the expense of purchasing them if possible because it is unlikely we will need them again next year (fingers crossed). This team underpin the vital care and support our organisation delivers to people living with motor neurone disease - Name: Pam Turner... - Job Title: Occupational Therapist - How long have you been at MND SA? I started in late January 2021 - What did you do before joining MNDSA? I have held many different positions over time. More jobs than hot breakfasts I’ve been told. Since becoming an OT as a mid-life crisis awakening, I’ve worked across a broad spectrum of acute, sub-acute, community and residential settings. Orthopaedic, brain injury, palliative care, acute medical, and my last position was as a My Aged Care assessor. In a pre-COVID world, I’ve travelled to many places in Australia and abroad. I’m looking forward to getting back to some more of that - Quirky fact about yourself? Might be easy to ask what isn’t quirky about me? - What's your favourite part of your job? Meeting our clients, hearing their stories and providing support to facilitate their participation in meaningful activities. I am always up for a chat! - What are some of the challenges? The challenges of different funding models and while Medicare might give equal access to basic health care, access to complex equipment and support is not at all fair and equitable. 19.01.2022 Biogen are conducting a market research project to ascertain information on the experiences of people living with MND in Australia. The company they have engaged is seeking help in accessing people living with MND. Elbow Insight and Strategy are an independent market research agency specialising in healthcare and patient research, based in Sydney. They would like to engage patients with MND and or their Carers to get their thoughts on this disease. They have been engaged b...y a Pharmaceutical company to conduct market research into the experiences of people with MND, to better understand their life experiences, challenges and opportunities to support them better. They will not be selling anything or mention any specific treatments. The research consists of a 60 minute phone call with an experienced, independent researcher. They understand this is a challenging time for everyone and appreciate that your time is valuable so they will offer $250 in gift card as thanks for your participation. They have asked for MNDSA to help in sharing this research project in our community so any interested members can contact the lead researcher for more information. We are advised that all responses are anonymous and results are reported to the Pharmaceutical company in aggregated form. All patients details are confidential. Elbow is a part of the Australian Market & Social Research Society (AMSRS) and they adhere to a strict privacy policy which protects the anonymity of the people they speak with as part of market research projects. A copy of their privacy policy is available on request. Elbow advised they are experienced market research researchers, with around 20 years industry experience, and have conducted research with many people in the past from all walks of life with all types of medical conditions. 02.01.2022 MND SA, together with MND Australia and all the other MND state associations, hosted a special Walk to D'Feet MND this time last Sunday. Over 500 Walking Warriors came together at Pinky Flat for our annual walk and raised an incredible $76,253.90 We were so touched by the turnout and would like to thank YOU, our amazing community, for turning up to support us. People living with the disease depend on MND South Australia, and we depend on you Do you have a story from the day or around the reason you get involved with this special event? If so, we would love to hear from you! Stories are incredibly powerful and can help others going through the MND journey.
