17.01.2022 Meet the stars of our 2020 Christmas Appeal. 2020 has been tough on so many levels. Imagine being diagnosed with motor neurone disease the day before Victoria was put into lockdown. That’s exactly how 2020 shaped up for Lance and his wife, Cecile. Lance and Cecile’s story is nothing short of mesmerising. ... The term ‘inspirational’ doesn’t do their relationship justice. Cecile, who was born blind, has been cared for and supporter unconditionally by Lance since the couple met 12 years ago. Now, both play a significant carer role for each other. You haven’t seen teamwork until you’ve met Lance and Cecile Please give generously to our 2020 Christmas Appeal so all Victorians living with MND, just like Lance, can continue receiving the best possible care, support and vital assistive equipment to enable them to live as well as possible for as long as possible. Follow the link to make a donation, hang a decoration on our tree and leave a message - https://www.mnd.org.au/campaign/1/dv-campaign Until there's a cure, there's care.

16.01.2022 A recent MND Australia article highlights the benefits of participating in research which can be a very positive, and meaningful, experience for both people living with MND and their carers. (Read the article here - bit.ly/2UWgOLo). For those who have been offered genetic testing, a new study is hoping to interview individuals with MND and their family members about their experience of being offered (and if relevant, undergoing) genetic testing for MND genes. Researchers ar...e also interested in suggestions for improving this experience for others in future. Interviews can be done by telephone, video conference, text or email. If you are interested in taking part or would like more information, please either complete the form here: https://redcap.link/qs0liv24 or contact Ashley Crook by email ([email protected]). This study is part of a PhD project and has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee, University of Technology Sydney (Approval no. ETH20-5122).

13.01.2022 The Young People’s Group was established in 2003 for people living with MND under the age of 50. Today, there are a number of Support Groups run by members of our community. These groups create a space where people can come together and support each other on their MND journeys Lobbying for Rilutek to be added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) was also undertaken. In Australia today, both brands of riluzole (Rilutek and APO-Riluzole) are available for eligible people at a subsidised price on the PBS under an authority prescription. #MNDmilestoneMonday #milestoneMonday #MND #ALS #NeverGiveUp #SupportGroups

10.01.2022 Labour of love Our very own Janette crafted these beautiful Christmas angels for our volunteers. Over 140 were handmade as a token of our appreciation to each and every one of our volunteers. MND Victoria could not do the work we do throughout the year without their dedication to help provide people living with MND with the care and support they need to live better for longer.
