25.01.2022 QLD caravan parks have NOT been asked to close. Some private holiday chains have decided to close under their own choice. We are advised daily by Caravan Assoc of Qld and are following all guidelines in place with our amenities and residents. Here is our latest advice: Announcements made in the past 24 hours... Exemption for Essential Workers Following significant lobbying by CPAQ, this afternoon the Dr Jeannette Young, Queensands Chief Health Officer updated the Non-essential business, activity and undertaking Closure Direction as it relates to the exemption for caravan and camping parks. The new exemption allows caravan parks to continue to operate in a limited capacity, providing accommodation for individuals that live in caravan parks, in situations where a persons permanent place of residence is not available to them, and for essential workers such as healthcare workers and people working on infrastructure projects, critical to many caravan parks and their regional communities at present. The Non-essential business, activity and undertaking Closure Direction for caravan parks has been amended to include the following exceptions: Where people live permanently in caravan parks or are staying in caravan parks as interim abodes where their primary residence is not available, they may continue to do so, with social distancing observed. This includes the use of cabins within caravan parks. May continue to operate for essential workers such as health practitioners or other persons providing essential services for example, emergency services or infrastructure projects, with social distancing observed

16.01.2022 I have just been informed that the camp grounds on the Calliope River will be opened this weekend. The travelling public will be shouting for joy. This site i...s one of the most popular camp sites in Australia and its closure was not welcomed by many. Thank you Gladstone Regional Council. All we need now is for the Toilet on the northern side to be put back into service. This toilet has been out of service for approximately three years. Most caravans have their own amenities so it doesnt worry them that there is no toilet. It is the tent dwellers that appreciate a toilet. I know everything takes time and our Council maintain these grounds to the best of their ability. But surely they can afford to fix this one toilet. That beautiful feature opposite the Council chambers is finished now, so lets all cross our fingers and put this toilet on a Council bucket list. Our main income to maintain and make improvements to the Calliope River Historical Village comes from this camp ground. The tourists from near and far support us no end and it was dreadful to have to tell them they had to travel on. These travellers have a beaten track up the Queensland coast and we are only too pleased to see them and cater for their needs. Welcome back guys. Kay
