24.01.2022 ~ TEXT NECK ~ This is the name used to describe neck pain and damage caused by looking down at electronic devices such as a mobile phone or iPad. Signs and symptoms include: - chronic headache - sore neck... - numbness and tingling down arms and fingers - tight shoulders - pain in the neck, shoulders, back and upper exremities - postural change We are all guilty of using electronic devices in this modern age, so it is important to be aware of your posture when using your device as it can prevent long term chronic pain. 24.01.2022 ~ Clinical Somatics ~ I did a webinar on clinical somatics at the end of last month. This was so interesting especially when looking at chronic pain and underlying causes and the brain's role in this. The brain senses and controls muscles and movement. When injuries occur, the body compensates putting extra load on surrounding muscles and structures. This then causes a domino effect on posture, gait, joint pain etc. Over time, once the injury is healed, the body may still be... in protective mode as the affected muscles cannot let go as they are involuntarily contracted at brain level so poor posture, gait etc is still existing. The brain's sensory motor needs to be re-educated for the injured area to relax and regain strength and movement. This is done through specific stretching and breathing exercises. 18.01.2022 I finally had my first float last night with Weightless Float Centre. This is something I highly recommend. The high concentration of Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) has sooooo many benefits for the mind and body including stress, tension, post exercise soreness, musculoskeletal disorders (tendonitis, arthritis, fibromyalgia etc). And the best part is you can zone out for an hour and come out with the softest skin How lucky are we to have this in Temora!

09.01.2022 VACUUM CUPPING is here! I have recently completed this course under Niel Asher and the guidance of the talented Stuart Hinds. I have been trialling it this week with amazing results. This is something used in conjunction with massage and I am loving the feedback so far! I have been doing fire cupping for over 12 years now but have recently switched to vacuum/suction cupping for many reasons including: greater control of pressure and practicality wise for my mobile business a...s it is safer, lighter to carry and quicker to set up. The main difference with fire cupping as opposed to vacuum cupping is fire cupping is as it's name suggests- uses fire inside a glass cup to create suction. Vacuum cupping is a modernised form of fire cupping and typically uses plastic cups that are applied to the skin and a suction handle is then attached to 'pump' creating negative pressure. The cups can either be static on the skin or glide over the skin of affected areas to create myofacial release, breaking up the tight areas. Red marks result because of the blood being drawn into that area. The darker the marks the more toxins, blood and lymph and pulled during treatment. These marks can last a few days. I have appointments available next Monday and Tuesday including after work hours until 7pm if you would like to try the cupping with your massage. You won't be disappointed! 05.01.2022 Did you know wallet sciatica is actually a thing? It is more common than you think. By sitting with a wallet in your back pocket also puts direct pressure on the piriformis muscle which ultimately puts pressure on the sciatic nerve.As the pelvis is tilted it also pushes your lower back out of alignment, putting extra pressure on the joints and surrounding muscles that are compensating for the imbalance. In comparison, a person who sits with their legs crossed also has similar postural imbalances. By making small changes to correct your posture can help to prevent back pain or potentially more serious problems.
