25.01.2022 The Cossack squat is a great exercise to track your progress when it comes to hip, knee and ankle mobility! Being a single leg squat variation, it also helps with pin pointing any deficiencies in the lower body (eg. one side being stronger or perhaps lacking more range of motion/ mobility than the other side). It’s always important to address these and limit the compensation from occurring . Similarly, for some people they have may have the range of motion to go through... the position but lack the end range strength, control and glute strength to get back up (and not be awkward via buckling knees and hips rotating in). . Your hips don’t lie and they will be a beneficiary when working through our programs. . 12.01.2022 Mobility is a big focus in our classes! . Not only do our classes work through various pre-hab exercises and passive stretches, but there’s also plenty of focus on active mobility exercises (cia the shoulders & hips) like the elbow hinges demonstrated in this video. .... These prone elbow hinges to shoulder extension are much harder than they look! Actively trying to push your hands towards the ceiling, whilst keeping your hands shoulder width apart, locked out arms and plenty of tension - certainly makes you fight for control and helps strengthen the end range of the shoulder extension (or close the gap between your best passive stretch and what you can control in that position). This is important for when it comes to doing exercises like bench dips, ring dips, muscle-ups etc! With a lack of passive & active mobility in the shoulder extension position, doing exercises like dips may lead to compensation and not going full range (hence not getting the full benefit of the exercises). . It's amazing where this handstand journey can take you - with a bit of time, patience and good coaching! We've helped people in their 50s who have surprised themselves with how easy their handstands feel since their first sessions... (which are always quite nerve racking &challenging - but most push through)! Our next 5 week beginner handstand workshop series kicks off at 9am Sunday the 18th of October. These are fun, different and certainly my make you work for that upper body and core strength . The best thing about this video is that not one of these class participants could do this when they first started ... . So how are they able to get so strong? .
