23.01.2022 Auction Item #9 Time to get a little dirty with this corrugated garden bed thanks to Stratco complete with gardening gloves, watering can and gardening tools. What will you grow?

22.01.2022 Congratulations to A Grade opening bowler Josh Lamerton, who notched up his 200th club wicket prior to the Christmas break. Lammers acheives this feat after taking 19 wickets so far this season, at an average of just over 10 runs per wicket. He also recently ticked over 1000 runs for the club. Shannon Wright also reached the 150 wicket milestone in the LO3 team's final match of 2020. This total includes 7 x 5fas (with a 9/14 and a 9/59). Well done Shannon on a great achievement!

22.01.2022 MODBURY CRICKET CLUB vs PORT DISTRICTS C.C SATURDAY OCTOBER 24 T20 Round 2 Yesterday the A grade ventured down to Largs Reserve to take on Port Districts in Round Two of the T20 competition.... Winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, the hawks were off to a great start keeping Port Districts to 4/49 after ten overs. The fielding standard was elite with only one or two chances being missed all day. At the end of their innings, Modbury had managed to contain Port Districts to a score of 105 off 18.4 overs. Lamerton 3/13 off 4 Radan 3/7 off 2.4 Massacci 3/17 off 4 Edwards 1/22 off 4 Then came the Hawks turn to bat, getting off to a great start ending the 9th over 2/47. Then came a bit of a batting collapse which saw the hawks lose 8/44 and eventually end up 15 runs short of the total. Lots of positives to take out of the game and move into our one day game at Modbury next weekend.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to Kel Wegener, who has been announced as a finalist for the SACA Volunteer of the Year Award in the 2020-21 Community Cricket Awards. Kel was brilliant as Modbury Cricket Club’s Junior Coordinator and drove an expansion of Modbury’s junior ranks to seven sides last season, at a time when participation rates at nearby clubs were decreasing. This is in addition to the 38 mini Hawks we have taking part in the Woolworths Blasters program. Not only did Kel pull-...off a massive recruitment drive, she was also pivotal in major fundraising drives and organising club events. Well done Kel - be sure to thank her when you see her around the club in 2021-22! Good luck and we hope you win the award - you certainly have our vote! #gohawks

17.01.2022 Captains’ Match Reports Two Day Competition Round 6 Saturday 19th December... A2 Grade vs Port Districts Heading into the last game of 2020 we knew we were a big chance to walk away with a win and cement our spot towards the top of the ladder. Winning the toss and deciding to have a bat, our openers got off to a great start with a 56 run opening stand between Matt Fogden and Devin Payne. Progressing steadily throughout the innings Modbury had a bit of a collapse losing 6/40 and getting to 156 all out. Then it was our turn to bowl, with the confidence and belief that we had what it takes to get the win. Some early pressure from Isaac Radan and Josh Lamerton got us off to a good start with the ball while Travis Edwards was creating chances every time he bowled it. Nic Massacci bowled well earning figures of 3/22. Modbury bowled Port Districts out for 138. A nice way to head in to the Christmas break! Would like to take an opportunity to wish all of the MCC family a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy the time off with the family and have a very happy new year! GO THE HAWKS B1 Grade vs Goodwood Playing a Goodwood side with a few A grade players in their side they won the toss and chose to bat on a small fast ground. Our bowlers could not bowl a consistent line and length which cost us a big score of 273. Batting second we never really showed any fight with Jimmy and Ollie the only ones to really get double figures.

16.01.2022 RECONCILIATION ROUND Over the course of the next two weekends, the Modbury Cricket Club will be celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture as part of NAIDOC week and SACA Reconciliation Round. Stump stickers with Aboriginal artwork designs will be used and players can choose to wear NAIDOC wristbands. The aim is to educate and promote NAIDOC Week whilst strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples.... NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. (Did you know? Australia’s first international sports team was an Aboriginal XI who toured England to play cricket in 1868. For further info: https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-m//aboriginal-cricket-team)

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Brodie Noble, who will line up for his 100th match tomorrow in the LO3 Grade against Woodville South. Beginning at the hawks in U11 back in 2006, Brodie went on to debut as A Grade wicket-keeper at just 15. In the same year, he captained the U17s to a premiership. More recently he has become an aggressive opener in the Limited Overs Competition, leading the run-scoring and helping the LO4 side to a flag in 2018/19. Well done Brodie, and we wish you all the best tomorrow!

12.01.2022 Have you visited our great sponsor Sportspower Golden Grove recently? Did you know that you can link your MSCC membership with your Sportspower membership? 12.01.2022 Well done to Travis Edwards on taking his 250th club wicket during Saturday's A2 match vs Payneham. Travis finished with figures of 4/25 off 9 overs. Trav's 250 wickets come at a miserly average of 14.8, including six 5 wicket hauls and a career-best bowling performance of 6/84 against SHOC in 2014/15. This includes 129 A Grade wickets at 16.6. Congratulations Trav!

12.01.2022 For our wonderful junior cricketers and their families, gear can be expensive and quite a big commitment as they are trying out our great game. The club provides kit bags for our younger grades and I’m sure some will agree, they needed some upgrades. Thanks to a wonderful donation from Sharon Sidhu and Jag Randhawa of Danveer Transport we were able to not only purchase new bags. We got pads, gloves, keeper gear, bats, stumps and helmets!!! Six brand new kit bags to be exact! A massive thank you to the team at Danveer Transport! The kids will love this next season.

11.01.2022 PLAYER MILESTONES In tomorrow’s A2 match vs Fulham, two of our long-standing clubmen and leaders will celebrate significant milestone matches. Firstly, Club Secretary Peter Dicker, will play his 150th game. Pete began playing at Modbury in 2008/09 as a top-order batsman in the club’s A and B grades. Over the years he has regularly been captain of the B Grade side, doing a fantastic job developing many young players in their first years of senior cricket. More recently he has ...been part of the A Grade’s success in promotion to A2. Pete has an impressive on-field record, tallying 3373 runs (no. 8 all-time at MCC), including 2 centuries and 13 fifties. Arguably his greatest contribution however, is what he brings to the club as a person. Thank you Peter for all that you have done on and off the field, and we wish you all the best in your 150th tomorrow. Second, Corey Barrett will play his 100th A Grade match, becoming just the 7th player to do so. With the stick, Corey has scored 2197 runs including two centuries. He has also taken 129 catches and had 21 stumpings with the gloves. Well done Corey on a fantastic achievement.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Isaac Radan on taking his 250th club wicket on the weekend. Isaac is just the 12th bowler at the club to achieve this feat, taking 251 wickets at 17.44, including 107 A Grade wickets at 16.35 runs per wicket. Along the way he has taken 10 x 5 wicket hauls, with best figures of 7/19. Not one to go home empty-handed at presentation, he currently has 3 x A Grade Bowling and 2 x B Grade Bowling.... Well done Isaac, there's plenty more poles to come in the future! (Now to get a more recent photo of you in action )

08.01.2022 Captain’s Match Reports Two Day Competition Round 9 Saturday 13th February A2 Grade vs Brighton... On Saturday the A grade played against Brighton at home. Winning the toss and batting we never really got going, being bowled out for 110 on possibly the thickest outfield Modbury has ever seen. Dicker hit 32. Our bowling started well with Ryan Parker taking an early wicket. The momentum never really swung our way, probably being 30-40 runs short in our batting innings made it tough to get on top. Brighton ended up 5/169 after their 40 overs. B1 Grade vs Marion The Bs took a trip down to Marion in a must win match. Losing the toss, we were sent into bat on a green deck. Unfortunately we lost wickets regularly being bowled out for 75 in 36 overs. We knew defending 75 was going to be a tough task, but the bowlers were up to it. At one point taking 5/9. We rode the momentum created by our bowling, taking our chances when they came. It came down to the wire, bowling Marion out for 73 in 30 overs. Well done to Jayden England taking 5/31, Jack Bastian taking his first B grade wickets (finishing 2/13) and Verity also took 2. A great win by the lads. As we look to build momentum into the coming rounds. Limited Overs Competition Round 14 Saturday 13th February LO3 Grade vs Flinders Park Big game again as they all are at this part of the season. We headed down to Flinders Park confident but also short a few bowlers due to availability. Lost the toss and had a bowl. Robbie started us off perfectly after a horrid first over taking 2/19 off his 9 overs. Cooper came on and took control of the game taking 5/16 of 8.3 overs! Well bowled to Callum as well, unlucky not taking a wicket and congratulations to Tim McGeorge taking his first Modbury wicket in his first game! We bowled them out for 80. They were never in it as we chased it down in 15 overs. Brodie hit 29 and Andy Massacci hit 30 not out! Awesome win lads keep the momentum coming. LO6 Grade vs Glenunga We came out to a cloudy day and a decent pitch at Banksia. Won the toss and elected to field. Some great pressure throughout the bowling kept the opposition 1/63 at drinks. However after that, they accelerated. Glenunga finishing 8/177 at the end of the session. Forster, Z Parry and Petersen taking two each, B Parry took one wicket and Steven Massacci a good runout. Modbury then faltered to 5/19 before Oli Radan came in to settle the innings. The skipper came in just after drinks to put on a 96 run partnership before being bowled 3 balls shy of the end. Modbury ending up 8/148 with Radan not out on 76. The take back was taking chances and being alert in the field. Taking the chances we had may have been the difference in this game.
