22.01.2022 The children have been flexing their inquiry muscle this term as they inquire into the many lives living in the Kindy milkweed. The next stage of the life cycle ! Interesting observations being made this week as the children curiously and calmly watched the butterfly dance out of the chrysalis. ... Admiring the patterns on the wings and sharing their wonderings. Do all caterpillars turn into butterflies? How did the butterfly fit in that tiny chrysalis?

20.01.2022 It was such a beautiful day outside, that we spent most of the day out there! After building a waffle block house, the children began to add different details to the house from a rubbish bin to downpipes. We had a discussion about the downpipes on the house and from that discussion, we created a reticulation system using PVC pipe and bamboo.

20.01.2022 We loved having Bugs and Slugs here this week! We watched Snails race, Giant Slugs slither and Egyptian Beetles wriggle. We even had a visit from Dolly the chicken!

20.01.2022 Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Shane Meyer come and inform us all about native bees, as part of our Bee Inquiry. The children also planted, with his help, some paper daisy's which will help us attract native bees to our garden!

20.01.2022 Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week, which runs from 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliatio...n journey: The successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. Further reading and resources can be found via www.shareourpride.org.au/secti/first-australians/index.html and over at Reconciliation Australia. #MoreThanAWord #NRW2021

19.01.2022 Dear parents/caregivers, The Premier today announced that schools and preschools will reopen to all students on Monday 23 November. As a result Modbury Kindergarten will be open and operating as normal. ... As the Chief Public Health Officer said, just because the hard lockdown is being lifted does not mean that the risks associated with COVID-19 have passed. As a result we will minimise the number of people coming and going from our site. Wherever possible, please drop and collect your child at the main door (at the car park) and maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults. Due to the lockdown announcement earlier in the week, we have had to unfortunately cancel Monday/Wednesday's incursion with HomeFresh. We will organise refunds for the families who have paid. Thank you very much for your support over the last couple of days.

17.01.2022 As we foster our great bond and deep respect for the traditional owners of this land, this is one way we honour Aboriginal culture here at Modbury Kindergarten. Using the foods of the bush we continue our research into ‘Bush Tucker’. This week we made lemon myrtle and wattle seed cookies . ... What native ingredients do you use in your cooking?

12.01.2022 What a beautiful day we have had today. We spent the morning outside in our kitchen garden. Where, to our surprise we discovered we had grown some sweet potato, carrots and potato. After harvesting we brought them inside and the children peeled the potatoes and we roasted them for the children to try.... They were delicious!!!

11.01.2022 From 7 Aug 2020, it will be mandatory for children attending an early childhood service to be up-to-date with vaccinations. Parents are required to provide approved immunisation records upon enrolment, and at other specific ages throughout the childs attendance at: childcare centres family day care... pre-schools kindergartens early learning centres Early childhood services are also required to keep a copy of all approved immunisation records for the duration a child is enrolled in their service. Retaining immunisation records onsite will enable a faster response time during a vaccine preventable disease outbreak, and help protect vulnerable children. An approved immunisation record is a childs immunisation history statement from the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR): https://bit.ly/31tPvw9 Check the AIR to see your childs records, and talk to your immunisation provider to ensure your child is fully immunised. Read through our parent and carer FAQs here: https://bit.ly/2ZjseKV

11.01.2022 Yesterday we had the pleasure of a surprise visit from Frances Bedford MP JP. She gladly took the time to talk with the children about what a politician is and the services she provides to our community. She shared that - she visits people. - she goes to parliament.... - she sees people in her office. In return one of the children sang We are one for her. It was such a beautiful moment we will be sure to remember. Thank you for your time Frances and we hope to see you again at our end of year celebration.

09.01.2022 Today we were talking about different types of rocks, (Igneous, Sedimentary, Metamorphic and Fossils). While playing in the sandpit some of the children asked if we could make a volcano in the sand. After the eruption, we were able to see the similarities in the sand and the igneous rocks.

08.01.2022 We have a taken a strong interest in what we can recycle? We had a stockpile of cans and bottles that needed to go to the bottle depot. We raised $36.80 just for being environmentally aware.

08.01.2022 We wanted to show the children how we get rain. By using shaving cream floating on water and dropping blue dye on top we were able to explain to the children, that when water molecules are too heavy to be retained by the clouds, they fall to the ground and thats when we have rain.

07.01.2022 Welcome to term 2! It is so lovely to hear the chatter and laughter of children again. As a team we have reflected on our entry area and snack time. You may have noticed some changes. The children have a space for signing in, with some new pencils to assist their grip, we often refer to this as ‘snapping crocodile’ fingers. This is a safe space for them to sign in and practice writing their name as they practice letter formation and letter recognition. Parents are encourage...d to support this but to let them do it, to feel they are independent and strong writers. The Modbury Kindy Café is a space where they can sit with their friends and enjoy their snacks and lunch together, an enjoyable tradition which will develop over time. The café encourages children's vocabulary and number knowledge as they count the number of seats and work out if there is room for them. They develop language as they discuss the delicious items in their lunchbox and their friends! To support this change we ask children to now put their lunchboxes on the trolley outside. We hope you enjoy these changes as much as we do! Modbury Kindy educators.
