24.01.2022 At Mode Plastic Surgery, we are passionate about breast reconstruction. This patient of Dr Aggarwal's unfortunately had breast cancer on one side, and elected to have a bilateral mastectomy. Having survived and fought breast cancer she desired to look and feel feminine and her normal self in clothing. Dr Aggarwal performed a bilateral DIEP flap #breastreconstruction. Tummy tissue was harvested and transplanted to the chest - this is an all day procedure which involves finding... the blood vessels in the tummy, disconnecting them and then reconnecting them to blood vessels behind the rib cage. The new tissue on the chest is then shaped to form a new breast on each side, and the tummy muscles repaired, and the skin closed. We feel that showing the patient with some clothing - even just some simple underwear shows the true power of this operation. The patient can look as close to normal as possible, and this is achieved without the need for implants that can rupture, rotate, ripple and need replacing every 10-15 years. The tissue feels soft like a normal breast, and grows with the patient (loses or gains weight with weight flucutations).

24.01.2022 The beginning of October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! This is an important month on our calendar, as it’s a time that we dedicate to breaking down stigma and questions around breast health. Breast cancer continues to be one of the most common cancers Australian women face, but survival rates continue to reach phenomenal highs! With an abundance of resources and knowledge being published this October, including on our own Mode socials, now is a fanta...stic time to research and spread the word about how we can all conquer breast cancer.

19.01.2022 A common question that medical professionals are asked is; why medicine? For Dr. Aggarwal, the satisfaction of giving back to the people that need his help is what keeps him going as a passionate surgeon. Why sub specialise in breast reconstruction? Unfortunately, breast cancer is a common disease, with most of us knowing someone that is impacted. With this surgery focus, Dr Aggarwal is able to help as many women as possible conquer an extremely difficult time in their liv...es. Listen to more of what he had to say in this sit down chat about his career and practice.

19.01.2022 In the abundance of ways to go through breast reconstruction after cancer, always know that there is an option for you. There is no one size fits all path, and discussing your goals and concerns with your surgeon is the best way to ensure your happiness throughout your surgery journey.

19.01.2022 Here is another angle of a #breastreduction patient that we helped by reducing the mass of her breasts. This side by side highlights that the procedure does a fantastic job of creating a more proportionate shape, as well as the side affects that can occur for women with heavy breasts.

18.01.2022 Liposuction should not be seen as an alternative to diet and exercise, and is certainly not the simplest way to remove excess fat. Liposuction is very much an adjunct to healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, and the best results are in those who are fit and healthy, and cannot make certain areas of fat improve with exercise. If you are overweight, liposuction may not actually improve contours because liposuction cannot access areas of deeper fat around the organs of your body. Furthermore. areas of fat removed will be quick to recur in the absence of healthy eating and exercise.

15.01.2022 This young lady had a bilateral #breastreduction after suffering from years of back, neck and shoulder pain, and also finding it difficult to find appropriate clothing. Her result here shown 2 months after surgery, shows how the scars fade with time, producing an improved shape, and size that is more in proportion with the patient's body.

14.01.2022 Meet the lovely group of ladies that we will be featuring this month! We were fortunate enough to hear from these incredible women about their battle with cancer and their reconstruction journeys. We will be sharing more of the heartfelt stories they had to share throughout this month. It was a pleasure to be apart of their reconstruction process and help these women move past the hardships that they have faced. Their confidence is contagious, so make sure you keep your eyes... open for more of their content! #breastcancerawareness #breastcancer #october #pinkribbon #cancerawareness #reconstructivesurgery #breastreconstruction

11.01.2022 This is a before and after of one of our patients who presented for a left breast reconstruction, after spending many years trying to save an implant reconstruction performed elsewhere. This was because like many other women, she had radiation as part of her treatment for a left sided breast cancer. The radiation and her implant did not mix well, causing the skin to thin signfiicantly and the implant to harden (#capsularcontracture) to the point that the implant was at risk ...of exposure through the thin skin. This had to be removed, and even after removal the skin was so thin that the ribs could be seen and felt easily on the left side. Dr Aggarwal performed a DIEP flap breast reconstruction using the tummy tissue. A significant part of the radiated skin was replaced on the left chest, and no surgery has been performed on the right breast. Thank you to our patient for allowing us to share her results!

11.01.2022 Private patients of Dr Aggarwal will be given instructions on how to contact Dr Aggarwal directly after their surgery, along with their scripts and discharge instructions. If you have difficulty contacting Dr Aggarwal directly, he may be scrubbed in a procedure and you can contact our office during business hours, or after hours contact the private hospital where you had your surgery and they will try and get a hold of Dr Aggarwal.

09.01.2022 Every surgery carries risks, and therefore one must consider if risks outweigh the benefits for your own personal situation. If they do then the surgery may be well worth it. Dr. Aggarwal will discuss the pros and cons of surgery with you during your consultation. Risks of anaesthetic there are general risks of going under an anaesthetic such as a mild stress on the heart and lungs, risk of reaction to anaesthetic drugs and risk of blotting in the legs. These risks are gene...rally low in patients who are otherwise fit and healthy. Bleeding (1-2%) any bleeding is controlled during surgery however unexpected bleeding can occur in the immediate postoperative period. If this occurs, it will necessitate a return to theatre to control the bleeding. Infection (<1%) this is very rare in patients. However, you are given antibiotics during induction (when you are going to sleep), as well as a course of oral antibiotics after your surgery to keep this risk to a minimum.

07.01.2022 The decision of which scar will be employed depends on the amount of reduction required and the amount of loose skin that must be removed at the lower part of the breast. Generally, Dr Aggarwal prefers the lollipop (or vertical pattern) for most breast reductions. It is important to remember however that with this technique, a certain amount of loose skin will initially be present at the lower part of the breast. This loose skin takes up over a period of 3-6 months to correct... itself, but in some patients it does not go away completely, and may need a minor excision down the track. If this is required a small horizontal scar will be placed in the fold of the breast and the length of this scar is less than what it would have been had the skin been excised in the first stage. Often this removal of skin can be undertaken under local anaesthesia in rooms. An anchor scar is necessary for patients who require a large reduction, or require a large amount of skin to be removed. In these patients, too much loose skin would be present at the lower part of the breast if the lollipop scar was employed. Dr Aggarwal will be able to guide you during the pre-operative consultation process as to which scar will be best for your breast reduction.

06.01.2022 Q: Can I have imaging for breast cancer screenings after having a breast lift/reduction? Yes you can, however the additional scarring within the breast can make breast mammogram and ultrasound more difficult to interpret by radiologists. It is therefore important that prior to undergoing surgery, you have imaging of the breast done. This makes sure there is nothing of concern in the breast tissue, and also forms a baseline against which a post-surgery mammogram can be compare...d. It is important for you to participate in regular screening after having surgery as you would have otherwise done for breast cancer (based on your age and family history).

04.01.2022 This young patient of ours came to see Dr Aggarwal as she had suffered from significant neck, back and shoulder pain due to her large breast size. She also had bra straps that would dig into her shoulders and in fact you can see this in the preoperative image. Her post op result shows that breast reduction produces an excellent, more proportionate shape to the breast and in a bra she looks so much more comfortable. The scars are the trade off for better shape and size, but they heal better than patients expect.

04.01.2022 Here is another angle of one of our breast reduction patients. One of the major concerns that women have is wanting to look ‘normal’ in their clothing. This patient now has a proportionate look to her breasts, in and out of a bra. We are so pleased to have given her the natural appearance that she was striving for.

02.01.2022 Unfortunately, there is no great treatment for cellulite. Liposuction can make areas of cellulite appear different, but not necessarily better and sometimes worse. You are best to concentrate on healthy eating and diet as well as exercise. We at Mode, do not offer non-surgical solutions for cellulite such as laser and fat freezing because these may not be of benefit.

02.01.2022 Q: ‘I’m concerned regarding the scars of a face lift - will people know?’. The art of a beautiful facelift is inconspicuous scars combined with a result that looks natural and beautiful, without looking like you have had an operation. The scar of a facelift runs usually within the hairline or just below it at the front, just behind the tragus (cartilage at the front of the ear), and then around the ear lobe, behind the ear and into the hairline.... When healed, it is difficult to spot the scar of a facelift, but the scar behind the ear may be visible if you wear your hair up.

02.01.2022 Modern generation silicone implants are of very high quality but as with all foreign bodies they have a lifespan and must eventually be replaced! Currently we state that the implants will last 10-15 years. However this does not mean that you will definitely need to sign up for surgery at the 10 year mark. Dr Aggarwal will examine you every year following breast implant surgery. If there is any suspicion of implant integrity or the implants are over a decade it may be worthwhile obtaining imaging at that stage. If imaging detects a problem with the implants or there are other reasons for surgery (e.g. scar revision, breast lift, etc) you will be offered surgery for exchange of implants.

02.01.2022 Mode Plastic Surgery is dedicated to the women that have battled breast cancer and face the new challenge of regaining the life they knew before diagnosis. Dr Aggarwal is passionate about breast reconstruction and a sub-specialist in this field. In fact, he pursued two international premier breast reconstruction fellowships overseas the first at the University of Toronto, and the second in microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania. This is why a large number of our patients are cancer survivors, all pursuing a surgeon with extensive knowledge and experience in breast reconstruction. His knowledge in the field combined with the passionate care that our team provides ensures that the women that put their trust in us to reconstruct their breast move past this hiccup in their lives with a regained confidence.

02.01.2022 Once I had the breast reconstruction it gave me my life back.. I can go and do my passions that I love. I love to dance, and I couldn’t do that before. - Denise The team at Mode have heard it countless times that reconstruction gives you back a piece of yourselves. Our work is one of recreating confidence and giving women back the lives they deserve.
