14.01.2022 Often when I hear a mum asking for advice with that edge in her voice that tells me she’s about 1/4 of a coffee away from spontaneous combustion, I can’t help but wonder if the problem she’s having is ~actually~ a problem or if it’s just something she ~thinks~ is a problem. Is the fact her baby falls asleep on her chest every night an actual problem or is it because of all the Barbaras out there pressuring her to put baby down DROSWY BUT AWAKE? Or is it Karen from swimmin...g who would NEVER let her child crawl into bed with her because that doesn't foster independence and is creating a rod for your own back? Or Harmony from playgroup who would NEVER feed her child something from a packet *gasp* because her little Gemima only eats certified organic, locally-sourced superfoods. There are soooo maaany "rules" out there, all trying to squeeze their way into my very limited brain capacity and fuel our collective mum-guilt. So I gave up. And freeing myself from everyone else’s expectations was one of the most liberating things ever You do you, mama ‘Cos at the end of the day, no one knows what the hell they’re doing

12.01.2022 M I L E S T O N E S For those whose children hit milestones on time, I’m happy you didn’t have to go through the worry. The constant comparisons. The late night Googling of when do babies start (insert milestone). Both my girls started walking at 23mths. Yep. Kids HALF their age were running around while we planned 2nd birthday parties for crawlers.... With my eldest, I was sick with worry and as much as it pains me to say... embarrassed. I hated that I felt that way. I’d get all the helpful suggestions... Yes random person, I’ve tried everything you've suggested (a thousand times) and she’s still not walking. That girl is now 4 and you’d never know she hit her milestones late. She's compassionate, articulate, hilarious - I couldn’t be more proud of her With my youngest, I’m way more relaxed about it. I can see the progressions and while others may consider them small or slow, I consider them amazing This time around, I refuse to let comparison steal our joy Avoid asking your friend if their child is (insert milestone) yet, it’ll probably spark unnecessary stress. Instead, praise her on the amazing job she’s doing and the things her baby CAN do
