25.01.2022 Oh sweet savasana For some of us we relish the stillness at the end of a yoga class, and for others its the most challenging part of the practice. So how could lying flat on the floor in stillness possibly be of any benefit to us? Savasana is often referred to as the MOST important pose of the practice, and for good reason. In stillness we are given the opportunity to: ... allow the body to rest, rejuvenate and recuperate from the practice switch from sympathetic (fight + flight) to parasympathetic (rest + digest) where our body does its most efficient healing let go of any holding onto what is no longer serving us; mentally, physically & energetically. this could look like anything from muscular tension to a specific thought pattern connect to our breath, utilising it to take us into deeper states of stillness & bliss expand our awareness beyond ourselves, connecting to our fellow yogis, the energy of the room, the incredible vastness of the universe & the oneness that unites us all observe ourselves! If this pose is the one where you become most fidgety, your mind starts thinking about your to-do list and what to eat for dinner, you get uncomfortable and irritable well congrats on being human Awareness is the first step on the path of transformation. When we let go of the human doing and drop into the human being, we can let go of the resistance that is holding us back from really letting go. So we lovingly ask that you turn off your apple watches, stay for savasana, give yourself the gift of those 5 sweet minutes and be here, now

23.01.2022 Shraddha : Faith .... and so much more. Wise words written by our friend and teacher Naomi that are too potent not to share: @naomidornthompson ... One of our most primal needs as people is to feel that we have purpose. In order to experience and sustain this purpose, we have to first establish a sense of what drives us, of who we are in the world. The Bhagavad Gita says that a person is what their shraddha is. The closest word the English language has to express the concept of shraddha is faith. Shraddha comes from two Sanskrit words: shrat (shrad), which means truth or faithfulness, and dha, which translates to put or place; to direct one’s mind toward. Shrat is also a precursor to the English word heart. Assemble these meanings and they tell you that faith blooms when the mind directs itself toward a deep-seated trutha truth arising in your heart. You will know what your shraddha is because you feel it. We feel shraddha deeply, so deeply that it often is experienced in the most intense emotionsecstasy, grief, compassion, joy, love. Your shraddha is what defines you as being you. One could say that your shraddha is reflected through your virtues and values, it is what defines your sense of Self, your character. Your character, or your nature, determines your destiny. It shapes how you perceive, live in, and are motivated in the world. When these values are dismissed or violated you may react very strongly. It's in these moments of trigger that we can best practice the yoga of creating space between the stimulus and the reaction by using breath to watch and to witness. Moments of challenge push us beyond the boundary of our comfort zone. In my own practice and when I teach, exploring this uncomfortable space is the priority. We move beyond comfort and into a space of challenge, and, in this new uncomfortable area can we cultivate stillness. Can we find presence and awareness in discomfort. And why is this space of discomfort so important? Because it's when we are uncomfortable that we are pushed to learn about and re-evaluate ourselves. CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS @leilajoy_ See more

22.01.2022 Full Moon. Blood Moon. Total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius 9:15 t o n i g h t Calling all fellow moon lovers: Set an alarm for about 9pm tonight to go outside and look up. This evening we are blessed with not only a full moon, but a total lunar eclipse (1st one since 2018) a blood moon and a super moon.... A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon is directly opposite the Sun (full Moon), but it doesn't happen every full moon. An eclipse only happens when the Moon's orbit is aligned so it passes through Earth's shadow. This full moon (and eclipse) also happens to fall 9 hours after the Moon has reached its closest point to Earth, so it is also a supermoon, making it appear much larger than normal. They say the celestial veil is thin around eclipses creating portals to receive downloads from worlds unseen and call formless into form here in our waking lives. This is an opportunity for growth, calling in, letting go, surrender and releasing challenges which have recently risen to the surface. Embrace this moon in Sagittarius with a ritual: 1. Sit down under the moon inside or outside and create a sacred space by lighting a candle or incense or simply drawing a circle on the earth around with your finger. Imagine yourself in a bubble of white light, filled with the moons luminous glow and unconditional love, clear of all else. 2. Let breath wash over you & recite the following: As I open this sacred space, I call my grandmother moon and grandfather sky. I call my guides, my ancestors, angels & the wisdom of this land to guide me to my highest path. I ask for guidance, I ask for peace, I ask for this next chapter to bring me release." 3. Sit in stillness & feel yourself supported by all those you have called in to hold you. Visualise all that you are ready to release as you gaze into your candle and watch it burn away. Gaze softly without blinking until your eyes water & you feel the weight of the past leaving you & passing into the flame. Stay open to insight and inspiration as your guides direct you into what actions you need to take next. 4. Close sacred space, place hands over heart & say: "Thank you, I release you, I love you, all is well" @hheininge

22.01.2022 Hey MM Family, As promised we have been keeping an eye on the evolving COVID situation here in the northern beaches. We have decided to close both M/M studios for 3 days in accordance with the NSW Government request. This is not a decision we take lightly but all strongly feel that it's the right thing to do. This means that all Friday 18th, Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th classes are now cancelled at both Mona Vale and Balgowlah studios. ... If you are currently enrolled in a class during this time please don't worry you will not be charged and there is nothing you need to do. If you still want to practice over the weekend please DM us and we will set you up with free access to Modern Movement Online where you can access all your favorite MM teachers. If have a you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us. Much love from us. See more

If your fav class was booked and you landed a spot on the waitlist, it's still likely that you could get a place. Please make sure you refresh and check a few times before class. - Cancellations... If you cannot attend your class, we get it; but please cancel as soon as possible so your place can go to someone else. Cancellations within 90 minutes of class starting will be charged at 50% going straight to charity. - No props... Upon re-opening we cannot share mats, blocks, bolsters, blankets etc. Please bring your own props from home for your practice. A beach towel or bed pillow works beautifully for yin! Of course, you're welcome purchase a new or secondhand prop in studio if you don't have your own home set up yet. - Sanitation... You'll find hand sanitiser located upon entry, on the reception bench and also as you walk into the studio. Please remember to sanitise your hands when you enter. We will be cleaning all surfaces and floors after every class and deep cleaning everything each night. - Distancing together... As you enter, you'll see floor markings for where to stand in reception and where to place your mat in the studio. MOST IMPORTANTLY... INTEGRITY And darlings, beyond all else; please, please, please stay home if you're coughy, sneezy, fluey, feverey, or generally feeling sick and yucky. We owe it to each other to practice that extra class at home instead of coming in when we're not feeling our best. We'll have to politely tap you on the shoulder and ask you to head home to rest, and we'd really rather not have to put you in a weird spot like that, ya know? So stay home and rest when you need to protect others. Please and thank you. See more

20.01.2022 MODERN MELLOW You may have noticed that upon our re-opening Slow Flow is no longer on the timetable... but Modern Mellow is. Heres why:... Modern Mellow is a slight shift in style that has replaced Slow Flow. We created Slow Flow 3 years ago to create a practice that bridged Vinyasa and Yin. A movement practice to bring the benefits of both strength and softness into one session. Slow Flow was an immediate favourite and quickly became the home for our yogis craving dynamic movement without the intensity and fast pace of vinyasa. BUT - we found ourselves leaning more into the SLOW making it more about the pace, which sometimes meant a very strong practice with long standing holds... rather than the element of flow Shifting to MELLOW is us leaning more into how this practice feels in intensity rather than the pace. Expect something very similar to the old Slow Flow... but more gentle, easy to access flows- rather than very slow, long holds. Great for beginners, perfect for days with low energy when you wanna move but dont wanna sweat, ideal for when you need to chill but you cant sit still.

14.01.2022 In hindsight, everything that has ever occurred was needed to lead us to exactly where we are now. See if you can wrap your brain around this: All that has ever been before is culminating into that which you are now. And just as all of your experience, from the time of your birth into your physical body until now, has culminated into who you are now... all that has ever been experienced by ALL THAT IS, has culminated into all that is now being experienced in the physical... life experience of Planet Earth. - Abraham Hicks So even though it feels big, we are standing here at the leading edge of thought at creation. A collection of every memory and experience that has ever occurred. What this means is that you are standing in the flow of all that is; and in this moment you are helping to create what will be. 08.01.2022 The practice of yoga expands far beyond asana (the postures), at its heart it’s a philosophy of living. Over the next 12 days we’ll be exploring some of our favourite yogic themes and how we bring them alive on the mat and in the world. Join us in class and here on our stories as we begin to plumb the depths of yoga.

08.01.2022 Feeling a little stuffed post turkey day? Seems almost too simple; but a short twisting practice will help on so many levels! When we twist, we compress the organs in the abdominal region. The organs in the digestive system temporarily get their blood supply cut off, and then receive a fresh source of blood, nutrients and oxygen when we come out of the twist. The cells detoxify and waste moves out of the system. ... All this compressing and releasing supports the healthy functioning of digestive organs to keep everything flowing and balanced. Type ‘twist’ into the search bar online if you need some inspiration and guided practices @leilajoy_ @moorerose

08.01.2022 Aaaaaand we're BACK! How did that just happen again right? We've been here before, but to be honest we really were hoping we weren't headed back anytime soon. ... With the gift of experience we've been able to shift the studios online with grace to continue to record exciting content to support our teachers and keep our team busy through this uncertain time. Together, we've been able to create little ripples of stability and beauty in a very chaotic time. We've been capturing some epic new flows, class fusions and mini workshops that we can't wait to share with you online! All members have unlimited access to our online platform during lockdown. Because your health matters so much to us we'll be monitoring daily for the right time to safely bring you home. So, with that said, we've made the decision that we will be remaining closed until at least the new year. Please email straight away if you'd like to suspend your membership until the physical studio reopens, we got you. If you wish to continue as normal, no need to do anything. We have been so humbled by the support we have received from you guys since we closed our studio doors and for those who can continue on as normal until we head towards re-RE-opening. PS If there's anything you want to see online, or if you need a set of ears to talk to or anything at all, please just let us know. We're always right here. @nagnata_

05.01.2022 What is Yoga? Yoga begins with listening. When we listen we are giving space to what really is. We are allowing other people to be what they are, and we are sanctioning our own bodies and our own minds to fully manifest. ... Yoga also begins with the present moment. Many classic texts, such as the Yoga Sutra by Patanjali; start with the word Atha, meaning now. Which refers to this very notion. In the context of the sutra, the use of this word atha means that we have come to a point in sour lives where we are ready to wake up from our conditioned existence and our habitual way of behaving, thinking and interacting with the world insinuates that we are finally ready to get real and discover the essence of all existence that lies deep down in the core of our own heart and at the centre of our being. It is from this experience of the root of life in the present moment that a yoga practice can actually be generated... Yoga is freedom. 05.01.2022 About online... That day we closed the studios, we expected to watch our family slowly get smaller and smaller. None of us ever anticipated that this crisis would in fact turn into a global gathering as we watched new family members appear all over the planet. All of the sudden new modern yogis popped up in New York, Amsterdam, Belgium, Germany, Bali, Colorado, London, Vietnam, Ireland, Paris, Italy, San Fransisco....... ... Little lights were turning on and tuning in; and we were like, wow. Who knew that closing down would mean opening up in such a meaningful way? So this is a love note to all of you online warriors. Who plugged in, dropped in and showed up; big time. We love you, thank you, and weve still got you. Even though some of us are physically back together again, theres still a lot of distance between us and our new family abroad. We will be streaming to you forever, as long as youll have us. The pic above is our little honey pot; Georgie, currently living in the Gold Coast and still teaching online every Wednesday and Sunday. Which is mind blowingly cool that we can still hang out with teachers from the past who moved away. Make sure you dont let your home practice fade, well still be streaming new classes if you rise and open the New classes Today button. Were not going anywhere. @georgieoram for @fadewomen See more

04.01.2022 Stay in your lane sweetheart. As you grow and evolve you often find yourself reaching through the unknown darkness seeking a reference point to know youre still on track. The parent you love might criticise you for your lack of self care while you blindly push yourself onwards... while the boss youre trying to impress might praise your selfless drive and sacrificing ambition. But no matter what; you wont ever make it there if youre addicted to the praise or avoiding t...he criticism. Expert Tara Mohr says it like this: Being hooked by praise and criticism takes a few different forms, each paralyzing in its own way: 1. Dependence on, or addiction to praise causing us to do only those things that are likely to get us gold stars and others approval 2. Avoidance of praise not wanting to stand out from the crowd even for positive reasons, which causes us to self-sabotage, to not do our best work 3. Fear of criticism which causes us to not innovate, share controversial ideas, pursue interests where well be fumbling beginners or fail along the way, or do anything that makes us visible enough to be criticized! Which of these three is currently the primary way you get hookedpraise-addiction, avoidance of praise, or fear of criticism? The goal, in my view, is not to become impervious to praise and criticism. That would be impossible. It would also be inhuman, and would force us to deny an important part of ourselves. The part of us that wants to have mattered to others, to have been of service. The part of us that wants others to receive us with appreciation, with enthusiasm the part that wants to be loved by those around us? The point is not to become disconnected from feedback, to have such a thick skin that we cant feel it or hear it, but rather, to become unhooked by it, to not be run by it. The point is to be run by our own wisdom, and to be able to use feedback effectively, in the service of our callings and our aspirations, along the way. The goal is to not have others ideas about us distract us, silence us, or take us on an emotional roller coaster. See more

03.01.2022 Its official, Spring has finally Sprung For us Northern Hemisphere-ers as we slowly peel ourselves out of the blankets and pack away the ugg boots, Spring is the ultimate time for inward reflection on what we want to bring with us into the new season, what we want to shed & let go of, and what we want to cultivate more of Spring cleaning isnt just a household de-cluttering thing, it's also totally an emotional and energetic thing! Some key energies at our disposal duri...ng this seasonal transition are creation, renewal, inspiration, momentum. Harnessing these powerful energies helps to propel us forth with greater clarity and drive in pursuit of our goals, dreams & deepest intentions Here are some journal prompts that could help you take inspired action; Think of your core values. Are you living in alignment with these? What could you be doing more of? What could you be doing less of? What passion would you like to explore more in this new season? In what ways could you show yourself more compassion? More kindness? Better self-care? What part of yourself do you feel requires more nurturing this season? What interest has gone neglected? What aspect of your life could use more focus? Whats been on the to do list for ages, that you still havent done? Why? Whats the blocker? If its just not that important, does it still have to be on the list? What is one small practice that would make your everyday a little brighter? Is itmeditation, some sort of movement, cooking yourself a delicious breakfast etc? We recommend finding a quiet moment to yourself, sitting down with a cuppa, putting pen to paper and getting totally real and honest with yourself for this exercise. Let the truth flow through you and reveal what needs to be known
