20.01.2022 Are your wisdom teeth giving you pain or discomfort? Impacted wisdom teeth can often cause infection of the adjacent gum tissue, decay in the adjacent tooth, potential crowding of front teeth. These symptoms often develop gradually, but can also cause sudden and severe pain. It has been well documented that early removal of impacted wisdom teeth (below the age of 25) is associated with less post-operative pain and swelling than in older adults.... Without enough room to erupt, wisdom teeth may become impacted, or partially trapped in the jawbone and gums, causing a variety of problems in your mouth and with your sinus cavity or the nerve in your lower jaw. The primary preventive measure for wisdom teeth is removal, preferably at an early stage. The method used for extraction varies for each tooth and person, and can be mostly performed under local anaesthesia in the chair. Extraction of impacted teeth may often require a minor surgical procedure to lift the tooth out of the surrounding bone and gum. A consultation with your Moe Family Dental Clinic dentist is required to discuss the procedure, prior to the extraction of any wisdom tooth or surgical procedure. 14.01.2022 Sometimes teeth never erupt. This patient had congenitally missing lateral incisors. Many years ago, the orthodontist closed the space, but now the canines look out of place. This patient chose to mask the shape with composite resin veneers. Resin can be bonded directly to healthy teeth, and no cutting or grinding is needed. 04.01.2022 DENTAL HYGIENE A healthy mouth is a healthy life, and that's why we place such a strong emphasis on regular check-ups and cleans. We provide gum assessments, removal of plaque, tartar and stains, teeth polishing and treatments to prevent tooth decay. Professional scaling and polishing is the most essential and foremost step in preventing any tooth problems. This procedure removes the hard material that can build up under your gums and between your teeth that brushing can neve...r remove. If this build up is not removed it can lead to gum diseases and in turn to periodontal disease. Gum disease leads to tooth loss and of course bad breath. You must brush and floss regularly after every meal and at a minimum twice a day Morning & Night. Not only should it be done regularly but needs to be done efficiently. Its best to get your teeth checked and professionally cleaned every 6 months, because prevention is always better. Flossing: The floss is wrapped around both of your index fingers and pushed between each of your teeth. Move the floss freely upwards, downwards and sideways to remove any food particles or plaque lodged between your teeth or under the gums. If bleeding occurs keep persisting as this means the gums are bleeding due to unhealthy bacteria trapped near the gum, that needs removing. Brushing Correct: tooth brushing technique is very important. Whether you use electric or a manual toothbrush, you should hold the brush at 45 Degree angle. Always a soft toothbrush is to be used for brushing. The electric toothbrushes only come with a soft head. Your tongue can also be cleaned with your toothbrush, which will help reduce bad breath.
