16.01.2022 Learning and culture is at the heart of our preschool. We're embedding culture every day, recognising the skills and knowledge Aboriginal families have to share with children. Every morning starts with our very own acknowledgement to country song written in consultation with Mogo Elders and the Mogo Local Aboriginal Land Council. A reminder that where we meet and learn is Aboriginal land. Learning continues outside in the cultural garden with our children building their knowl...edge through yarns from Elders and special visitors. They sit in a yarning circle on the beautiful yarning mat for lessons as a way to build respectful relationships and communicate collaboratively. Our preschool Educators also use a message stick designed by local elder, Uncle Tom, to run their meetings. "When we have a meeting, staff use the message stick as a way of following the spirit of Dadirri (meaning deep listening). We pass the stick around and each have something to say rather than following an agenda"- Julie Farquhar-Nicol- Mogo Aboriginal Preschool Educator. The meeting stick is decorated with symbols chosen by staff members to represent how they envisage culture and the children's learning and education. #NAIDOCweek #alwayswasalwayswillbe
