22.01.2022 Roger had the drone out today. Some snaps of the farm from the air. It shows how wet it's been as the whole area is green. Normally in early autumn the countryside here would be brown.

21.01.2022 It was a big weekend for us. The Foster Show on Saturday and the Berwick Show on Sunday. Foster is fairly local to us and it's a really good country show. We take the goats for display only and we were almost overwhelmed by the interest they created. I also do a bit of spinning and that also generates lots of interest. It's a great day, but by the time we set up, answer questions, pack up and then unpack the goats, we are pretty tired.. Here are the Foster happy snaps.

21.01.2022 Our first serious frost for the winter. Under the fog, the ground is white.

21.01.2022 Moonrise over our farm

20.01.2022 Today we delivered two of our most beautiful does, Feebee and Lace to their new home in Tyabb. It's always sad to say goodbye. We know they will be cared for and loved. May you have long happy lived beautiful ones and make lots of babies.

20.01.2022 The bucks under the nearly full moon after a lovely sunny winter's day.

20.01.2022 A sad day on our farm today. We had to say goodbye to one of our matriarchs, Toppsy (Grey Top in the stud book). She, and her sister Moppsy (Jet Star), were ou...r first greys and we bought them from Val Donald over 11 years ago. RIP Toppsy and thank you for being such a big part of our Heritage Angora Goat journey.

19.01.2022 Our breeding does with buck close to sunset on our farm

19.01.2022 We'll be there is a range of mohair and mohair products. If you are in the Gippsland/Melbourne area, hope to see you there.

19.01.2022 4.6o C, teaming rain, cold wind and we're about to go out and check on the goats. You don't have to be mad to be a farmer, but sometimes it helps.

19.01.2022 Despite what is happening in the rest of the country, we have had a cool and wet summer. Here are some comparison photos of this year compared to the same time last year.

18.01.2022 Today we found our beautiful black doe named Shadow dead in the paddock. We are heart broken.

17.01.2022 If there are people who would be interested in assisting us to save this rare breed of angora goat by becoming breeders, please let us know. We are always keen to welcome new members to our 'family'.

17.01.2022 We are sometimes asked if Alpacas are any good as guards and do you need one or two? Tonight heading into the paddock it was clear that something was a miss. T...here was a threat in the paddock and the alpacas rounded up the goats and kept them in a huddle until the 'threat' had passed. Here they are guarding the goats...except for one, Drambuie, who was having a pee. The threat? A 'killer' wombat.

16.01.2022 If you own some Heritage Angora goats, please let me, or the administrators of the Heritage Angora Goat Facebook page know your numbers. This is really important for saving the breed.

16.01.2022 We bought our first goats from Val in 2008. We have been in contact with her ever since and are very sad at her passing.

15.01.2022 Our little bottle fed baby is progressing well. We have called her Thomasina after the kind vet who saved her life.

15.01.2022 At the recent Berwick Show, many people commented on the size of Monash's, (our buck) horns. What they don't realise is that in comparison, Monash doesn't have big horns. Some of our bucks have much bigger horns, but we can't take them to the show because they no longer fit into the trailer. Here are Toby, Monty and Romeo. Monash is also there for comparison.

14.01.2022 Members of the South Gippsland Spinners and Fibre Artists gathered together to listen to Lill from Mohair Rare talk about mohair and dyeing. Great day was had by all.

13.01.2022 Our beautiful buck Monash, (who won first prize at the Berwick Show over the weekend), is going to spend the next month on holiday at Ruby Farm in Walkerville with four Heritage Angora does. Have fun Monash and make beautiful babies.

12.01.2022 One of our little ones was born very small and didn't receive her share of food. The cold night meant that she developed hypothermia. After a night with the kind vet Dr Tom, who took her home with him and kept her warm overnight, she is back home. A bottle fed baby now.

12.01.2022 Our first kids in three years. Pip has two little does. We'll call them Danielle and Gladys after two people of the moment. Well it's better than Corona and LockDown

11.01.2022 Here are our goats at Berwick on Sunday.

11.01.2022 The alpacas have been on guard again defending the goats from dangers. This time there were three 'killer' kangaroos. (Well I think they are kangaroo, they are much larger than the wallabies we normally see)

11.01.2022 Sunny cold winter's days after some rain and the hills of south Gippy have greened up once again. Not a lot of growth, but that's normal this time of year.

10.01.2022 Today was a sad day here. We lost one of our grand matriarchs, Frizzle. She was one of 4 does which started our flock. We bought her from Val Donald in 2008. She is the face on the Della Downs logo. Like a lot of farmers in South Gippsland, we have been battling barber's pole worm. Today we checked our non breeding does. Frizzle was anemic so we drenched her. Less than 10 minutes later she barked like a dog, sat down and died. At 14 years years of age, she lived a long life. She had a skin cancer on her back and one of her horns was badly cracked, so we knew it was only a matter of time, but we are still sad. RIP Frizzle, we loved you. Thank you for being a big part of our angora goat journey.

10.01.2022 After a truly awful week with our beloved black doe dying and the nasty South Gippy Council wanting to interfere in our farming activities, my mood has been very low. But here is a rainbow to cheer me up. Thank you Lord.

09.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who attended our stand at the Pakenham Fibre Day on Sunday. It was a great chance to catch up with people and display some awesome mohair.

07.01.2022 The Experimental Spinner Group (which is part of the Hand Weavers and Spinner Guild Victoria,) were experimenting with spinning mohair today. So Mohair Rare turned up to give encouragement. It was a great afternoon, and we met many happy spinners trying their hand at spinning both our heritage mohair and the fleece used commercially.

04.01.2022 We visited Prom Country Cheese over the weekend and I was given some fleece from the sheep which produce the milk for the cheese. It's a strong fleece, but it's washed up well and is spinning well too. Lovely long locks. Thanks to Burke at Prom Country Cheese.

04.01.2022 Nearly full moon over the farm tonight.

03.01.2022 So what do we do on the farm when the rain comes...and it does that often here. Today I carded some multi fibre batts for sale at the Pakenham fibre gig on 29 September. Here's a sneak preview of one of them.

03.01.2022 We saw this little chick on the path today. Luckily we stopped the Kubota in time not to run over the little one. Two Wattle birds were nearby, so it may be their chick, but the colour seems wrong. The little one is in a nut tree now, so hope it is going to be OK.

01.01.2022 Our breeding does in with Commander, the buck. They have plenty of pasture despite it being early autumn.

01.01.2022 45mm overnight and counting. The babbling brooks have turned into fully fledged streams, and still it comes.

01.01.2022 Roger with a couple of racy ladies eating out of his hand. One brunette and one redhead.
