17.01.2022 There's been plenty of sacrifices made since our lives got tipped upside down but wow, isn't life simpler!! We've been mushroom foraging 3 times in the past fortnight, we've made fresh pasta and pizzas with our findings, baked multiple batches of cupcakes and pancakes, we've made fresh juices and picked wildflowers, planted more herbs, we've enjoyed lots of bushwalks up Mount Gibraltar and found time for more exercise than ever before and our children have loved every single ...minute. Our neighbours have dropped off brownies and flowers from their garden and sent msgs of comfort and solidarity. I know it's a pretty shitty time for our world right now but it's important to find the good in all that is happening. Never have we known this kind of pace, never have we been forced to slow down... like literally.... properly... slow down! An opportunity to think, reassess, prioritise, plan, learn, enjoy, create...so many wonderful things to hold on to in a time of such uncertainty. Not trimming your wick is the same as buying a nice car and then never washing or servicing it...they need a bit o' love trimming your wick before every burn will mean it won't crumble into your wax making it look black and dirty and sometimes even causing it to spit and crackle making an even bigger mess inside your candle. 08.01.2022 That important first burn....did you know wax has a memory? To get the most out of your candle it is sooo important to burn it for a minimum of 2 hours for the first time or at the very least till the wax has melted across the whole diameter of the candle. If you stop your first burn too early you'll risk tunneling on all future burns which means the candle will start to burn downwards and will struggle to burn evenly to the edges. 05.01.2022 Our hearts break a little more each time we read another article, turn on the tv, scroll through social media and chat to the local people in our community....the devastation these fires have bought Australia is incomprehensible and the after effects will be felt for a long time to come. 'Moon in a dew drop' is Lindy Lee's largest survey exhibition to date and draws on her experience of living between two cultures.
