25.01.2022 Montezuma Falls walking track re-opened The walking track to Montezuma Falls has been reopened. Visitors can now enjoy the walk from the carpark in Williamsford... to the viewing platform at the base of the falls, with just a few trees to walk around along the way. The suspension bridge remains closed to all users, awaiting repairs to damaged anchor bolts and handrails. Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service thanks everyone for their patience. www.parks.tas.gov.au/t/60-great-short-walks/montezuma-falls Discover Tasmania Visit Cradle Coast Northern Tasmania East Coast Tasmania Hobart & Beyond Tourism Industry Council Tasmania

17.01.2022 Have you ever seen an echidna blowing bubbles? Martin Wells, Field Officer at Freycinet National Park recently spotted this echidna blowing bubbles at Hardings ...Fall. And no, he doesnt have a cold! Echidnas will often blow clear bubbles from their nostrils, which is perfectly normal. This is their way of blowing dirt from their nose, which can accumulate while they dig for food. Discover Tasmania East Coast Tasmania Visit Northern Tasmania Hobart & Beyond Visit Cradle Coast

09.01.2022 Amazing footage from Meander Falls today... surrounded by frozen ice and snow Thanks to Dave Schapp for sharing his incredible adventures. Dave says: "Sometim...es you just have to take a day off work and visit a frozen waterfall." In the heart of the Great Western Tiers is Meander Falls, a large waterfall in the alpine regions of the Meander River. Located over 1000 metres above sea level, snow can occur all year round in the area (how cool is that!). The walk commences from the Meander Falls carpark area, where various different hikes can be taken to Meander Falls. The main track to Meander Falls is a 6.5 hour return hike the commences at 600 metres above sea level. The track is decent and well marked in most places, but is steep in places. The Meander Falls walk takes you through beautiful highland bush country. Meander in fact could quite possibly be used to not only describe the falls, but also the leisurely pace you would set to full enjoy the walk away from the more heavily populated tracks. Meander Falls is in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and just an hours drive from either Devonport or Launceston. 05.01.2022 Want to escape the cold? Why not head underground Where the temperature is always a constant 9 degrees and it doesnt matter if there is rain, hail or shine ou...tside. Marakoopa Cave is home to a starry display of glow worms and a huge cavern known as the Great Cathedral, which reverberates song with perfect clarity. Two streams flow through the cave and the sound of running water follows you throughout. The Mole Creek Caves are home to a range of fascinating animals that exist in this unique and lightless underground environment, including cave spiders, harvestmen and crickets. Bookings need to be made the day prior to the intended tour, by phone, with payment by credit card. There will be six tours per day, with eight places (and two guides) on each tour at Marakoopa Cave. Please note that tours of King Solomons cave are currently unavailable. 04.01.2022 Ice skating on a frozen Tassie lake 12-year-old Olivia had the opportunity to skate on a frozen lake in the Central Highlands a few days ago. Her mum, Jen,... said: "We were so thrilled to find a frozen lake and somebody with ice skates that happened to fit Olivia! What are the chances?!" "It has always been a dream of hers and mine to skate on a frozen lake. We never thought wed have the opportunity in Tasmania." How lovely! : Jen Rayner via Tasmanian Figure Skating - Amy Pailthorpe
