22.01.2022 www.theseedcollection.com.au #yarndyejourney The nonfruiting artichoke is by far my nemesis in my day job with its painfully sharp fine spikes covering all parts of the plant bar the root. I despise them for they hurt, but if you look closely the flower is magnificent and the colours are quite eye catching. ... Doing a bit more research on them to know why the areas I got jabbed were still so sore, I came across this pic of a ‘Purple of Romagna’ artichoke and thought how gorgeous is that head with its magenta purple hues blending to spring green. I had a vibrant green dye I wanted to trial so this picture is perfect to try out a gradient blend of 3x skeins. I’m using three colours this time - purple, grey and green - and hope to create something spesh

22.01.2022 #yarndyejourney Being able to create with abandon is so freeing sometimes and this is how I felt dyeing up the Purple of Romagna gradient set. I chose three colours (with the base being 4-ply 100% SW merino) as I wanted to see the outcome from being more restrained with the number of colours used. I’m normally not a purple/green type of gal, however, the inspiration pic really made me want to try, with toning down the magenta. To add a neutral, I feel the grey balances off... the green and purple so beautifully and I’m just loving the way the colours play off each other! Working up all the swatches have been so insightful as the colours look so different from the yarn being skeined, balled up and then knitted/crocheted. So I plan to continue whilst I’ve time to so watch this space for the swatch of this gradient set. 20.01.2022 #yarndyejourney Growing up down the Mornington Peninsula was wonderful as we were located just a short 15 min drive to the beach or the bush. One of my favourite pastimes as a child was driving down to the beach at night with the family after a scorcher of a Summer’s day, similar to the weather of yesterday! Growing up in the 80s the only air conditioning we had was an open window. Seeing this picture made me remember the hazy visions of colour amongst the heat vapours with ...the almost iridescent blue of the sky with not a cloud in sight. Then as the change of the day comes, we were cooled down with the ocean breeze and cool water that made hunting for shells and swimming much more fun as our energy returned. I redyed the mixed skein and Desert as they were just not right. Desert turned out way too dark so it became Paprika for the Spice of Life set. I was a little too overzealous with adding too many colours at once without setting each layer in-between on the mixed skein. I was not happy. However, a happy accident happened and it turned out this glorious bronze with hints of the contrast colours which remind me of the chunks of iron ore coloured rocks found along the shoreline. I’m not sure if I’ll add this beauty in to the kit as I’m thinking I may not be able to recreate it . I’ve named this set Sand, Rock and Sea in memory of my time spent on the beaches down the Mornington Peninsula. Pic 1 is the mixed skein named Peninsula. Pic 2 are the contrast colours L-R: Clear Sky, Sandstone, Crystal Waters, Desert and Dusk. Pic 3 is all of the colours together Pic 4 is of the happy accident. 11.01.2022 It’s been 3 months since I’ve had a pair of needles in my hands! Ah today has been pure bliss I started making something gorgeous for a special lil dude in my life as a sample for a new test colour way. @amyflorence love of making Flax by @tincanknits finally convinced me to give it a try in a fingering weight. Cannot wait to get this one done!

10.01.2022 Okay, so I had one more item to share, but I had to wait until the item was received before I could. It was my sister’s birthday recently and I had shown her a sneak peak of the yarn I had dyed up whilst telling her about my inspiration. Not only is she someone I admire greatly for all of her qualities, she has the most wonderful and enviable long-term recall. At that moment, she also reminded me of our addiction to Allen’s Toffee Apple bars as children. We were given pocke...t money each week for doing house chores and helping Dad wash the cars and gardening. And each week, we would plan our adventure to the local milk bar and stand there for hours thinking about how best we would spend our 50 cents. Then we’d go outside, compare notes and then go in and buy the massive bag of lollies which was instructed to last an entire week. Sometimes we got the same and sometimes we got different lollies so we could swap. She also reminded me that we used to twist these toffee apple bars into shapes so that the green and pink would blend and create a kaleidoscope of colours, and that my yarn reminded her of that. So I decided to make my first wearable out of my hand dyed yarn - a fitted beanie using Love Apple with both Flutter and Crisp to keep her cosy in Winter adding in some special number sequences which are special to her. Happy Birthday Sis . May it keep your nugget warm

09.01.2022 Lavender Fields Visiting a lavender farm was such a glorious experience with their rows of pungent purple puffs as far as the eyes could see. Sitting drinking lavender tea whilst being shaded under magnificent oak trees feeding the farm’s resident chickens and ducks was a blissful way to spend a Sunday afternoon with my love. This piece represents that perfect day, with the handmade wire pendant inspired by the drying stalks of lavender heads hanging from the rafters, w...ith the Czech glass coins being the same colour as the tea that quenched our thirst and the handmade wirework connectors sprinkled with seed beads to represent the mottling of the sky above the lavender bushes where bees travelled to and fro. It measures 35 cms from base of neck to tip of longest dangle. Available now

09.01.2022 Hey all It’s been a little while since I’ve anything to share with you as a whole heap has been going on in my personal life. In short, Heath and I’ve had to wind down our full-time business as our shoulder injuries haven’t been healing and we’ve also moved from Geelong back to the Mornington Peninsula. It’s sad to say I won’t be beautifying property gardens anymore, but am absolutely loving our new journey and my new role. Once the dust settles, I’ll certainly be back ...in action with lots of news! Thank you so much for your messages checking in to see if I’m okay . It means a lot xxx N

07.01.2022 #yarndyejourney These weeks are whipping by and I don’t know if I’m coming or going . The weather has been really problematic with my day job so have working seriously weird hours just to get my work done and not bottleneck . I’ve had little downtime at night which is why it’s taken me so long to get these swatches finished. I’m just loving working on something small as normally my creative commissions are timely.... Stepping into the world of the dye pot has been so exciting and relaxing, and I don’t know if you’ve gathered, but I’ve been having an absolute ball . 05.01.2022 I’ve always wanted to work with clay - creating with a medium that is made from the earth sings to my soul. The time has never been right for me to try, either classes are available when I’m not and vice-versa. So I thought I would quell the desire by playing with polymer clay first. This piece features hand sculptured and painted polymer clay connectors, Artisan Jamn Silk silk cording, Irish waxed linen, Moonstone, Mookaite, Mykonos Greek ceramics, recycled glass, copper seed beads, wood beads, ethically sourced animal bone, Vintage Bronze wire and brass components.
