24.01.2022 This client presented to our clinic for her annual full body skin check. Through visual examination and digital imaging, our physician identified a small mole with atypical features. A punch biopsy was performed under local anaesthetic, and a small sample of the tissue was sent to the lab. The results returned as showing a melanoma, which required a further excision to remove all the cancerous tissue. Our physician skillfully performed a wide excision under local anaesthetic..., and closed the wound with an inner and outer layer of sutures. The client returned for her suture removal and and was notified that the melanoma had been completely and successfully removed from her left arm. Some bruising is normal to experience, but with proper aftercare, the client will likely only have minimal scarring. If it weren't for the client's diligence in returning annually for skin checks, this melanoma may have been left undetected, or been detected too late. Remember it is always important to protect, but don't forget to detect! Book in for your winter skin check today by calling us at 1300 730 781.

22.01.2022 We often get asked by women whether being pregnant, breastfeeding, or having recently given birth will have an impact on their skin check, and are hesitant to be seen at the clinic. It is completely safe to have a full skin check during any of these stages, and our physicians individualize their care to suit your needs. Pregnancy hormones can cause rapid changes in pigmentation of the skin, and it may be difficult to keep track of new and existing spots. It is important to ...have a full body assessment performed by a physician in combination with dermatoscopy, to monitor any changes. If a cancer is detected early, it is safe to have a biopsy preformed under local anaesthetic during any trimester. The longer a cancer is left undetected, the more difficult treatment becomes during pregnancy.
