17.01.2022 And then there were none ... Who knew a puppy could bring such joy! I imagine you are all having a great time. Mollie is doing well - missing her afternoon play times, but she is enjoying a return to normality as well, especially visiting the beach. (Yes, she is body surfing in this pic.)
12.01.2022 Hi everyone. I hope it is ok to post little bits about what we have learned on our journey. Laser pointers ... I was reminded yesterday of a difficult time I had with Mollie. It started with an innocent play with a laser pointer when she was about 18mths old. Our cat loves it. So did Mollie .... But it was disasterous, as apparently, it triggers an area of their brain that needs to catch what they are chasing, and the brain tells them they can't ... So a loop forms. ... Mollie stopped eating, she wouldn't listen to simple commands and even seemed to not recognize us. It seemed like my beautiful dog had been sucked into a vortex and there was nothing I could do, as she would chase anything insubstantial - reflections, torch light, but especially shadows. We called it shadow land. It was very distressing for me. I researched and read. It is a thing and most people said it was incurable without sedatives! I met someone on the beach who recognised what was going on and was very encouraging. I spent the next 8 months re-training my previously perfect dog. We started with small steps - rewarding minute instances of attention (eye contact), puting a bell on her collar when training to distract from shadow land, playing high energy games in short bursts, having a non stimulating place for resting .... She still struggles with shadows and will revert back - to some degree - if she is bored, but now I can simply say ' no shadows, Mollie, and she responds. So, can I please suggest that you don't use a laser with your pups? And if this happens to your dog at any time, be encouraged - there is a road to recovery.
04.01.2022 Hi everyone! Well by tomorrow morning, we will be puppy-less. We do miss them, but, as my granddaughter said, 'our sad is smaller than their happy'. These pics prove it. Thank you.
03.01.2022 And then there was one ... Junior goes tomorrow. It will be weird. So happy that they have such great homes. Just remember everyone - when they wake up, they need to pee.
