24.01.2022 Equipped only with some rolls of brown packing tape and a scalpel, Amsterdam-based artist Max Zorn constructs unbelievably realistic, sepia-toned portraits. This medium that Zorn works with is so fascinating because it is such a common item most of us take for granted. It takes a truly creative mind to unearth the artistic potential of a material as overlooked as packing tape. #LinkedInTopVoice #art #artist #tapeart #contemporaryart #light #dorothydistefano #lightingdesign #packagingtape #artsandculture #artmatters

23.01.2022 There is a huge amount of research and experimentation that goes into creating beautiful installation art. It definitely doesnt happen overnight. Thankfully, many artists are returning to their studios and we can expect to see some incredible work heading our way in the near future. This example entitled Quercus by Paris-based Collectif Scale is particularly mesmerising. Looking forward to seeing it come to life. #watchthisspace #LinkedInTopVoice #art #artist #artists #artinstallation #installationart #contemporaryart #sculpture #technology #light #lighting #lightingdesign #lightart #lightdesign #dorothydistefano #artsandculture #artmatters
22.01.2022 SOUND ON: In 2014, Swedish musician Martin Molin began work on a marble machine that would take him 16 months to create. The Wintergatan is a hand-cranked music box, loaded with 2,000 cascading steel marbles which activate a vibraphone, bass, kick drum, cymbal and other instruments that play a score programmed into a 32 bar loop. The marbles are moved internally through the machine using funnels, pulleys, and tubes. The 3,000+ internal parts had to be specifically designed ...and were all fabricated by hand. 21.01.2022 Karma (2003) was an imposing fibreglass sculpture created by Korean artist Do-Ho Suh. Extending from the ceiling to the floor: Two large legs, seen in mid-stride, walk across a gallery on top of hundreds of tiny figures. The sculpture invited the viewer to experience the gallery space in a new way. By projecting from the floor to the ceiling, by creating a sense of forward movement, Karma called attention to the way people experienced museum spaces, emphasising the tension between an individuals personal space and the larger space shared by the public. #LinkedInTopVoice #art #artist #sculpture #museum #dorothydistefano #artgallery #gallery #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist #artmatters #artsandculture

20.01.2022 The facade of the Kansas City Public Library is covered with book spines of classic novels such as Lord of the Rings, To Kill a Mockingbird and more. Created by the team at Dimensional Innovations the book spines, which measure approximately 7.5 metres (25 feet) by 2.5 metres (9 feet) are made of signboard mylar attached to an aluminium substructure. Clear Plexiglas windows through the centre of the books allow light into space. #design #architecture #placemaking #literature #library #facade #art #artsandculture #artmatters
20.01.2022 Maxim Zhestkov is a visual artist and motion designer based in Russia working in animation, design, and cinematography. In 2018 he created Volumes a 4K experimental art film which explored the laws of nature through the interactions of billions of spherical particles. 19.01.2022 Everything in Existence by Italian artist studio fuse was on display earlier this year at Artechouse in Washington. Visitors were immersed in the installation and offered a new perspective from which to observe and consider their reality. The works are generated by software that processes data in real-time, thereby creating living art that constantly changes. #LinkedInTopVoice #art #artist #artists #exhibition #artgallery #digitalart #contemporaryart #immersive #immersiveart #immersiveexperience #immersiveenvironment #datasculpture #dorothydistefano #experience #experiencedesign #artsandculture #technology #artsmatters
19.01.2022 iOTA was a live data sculpture created by the Los Angeles-based studio Ouchhh in 2017. The led art installation was inspired by light physics and research to find the origin of geometry. The title of the piece is in reference to a character used in mathematics to denote "the inclusion map of one space into another." Standing at the base of the installation, viewers are dwarfed by the sheer size of the artwork and are forced to move throughout the space in order to get a different perspective and experience of work. #art #artist #artists #artinstallation #installationart #datasculpture #sculpture #LED #perspective #data #perspective #artsandculture #artmatters
18.01.2022 Dancing Particles is a beautiful kinetic sculpture that was created by the team at ART+COM for the Silks Club in Taiwan. The art installation includes 168 metal spheres suspended above a water basin. Like a mirror, the waveless surface of the water reflects the spheres when forming moving shapes in an elaborate 50-minute choreography. Whenever the spheres touch the water, circular ripples distort the reflection, adding a natural effect to the minimalist yet technologically complex design, and casting caustic reflections to the ceiling. #art #artists #artinstallation #installationart #kinetic #kineticsculpture #kineticart #sculpture #reflection #technology #design #artsandculture #artmatters

16.01.2022 When curating or collaborating with artists the thing we always look for is heart and soul in their work. We need to get a glimpse into who they are as a person and feel moved by the experience. One such individual is Emmy Award Winner (regional), animator, storyteller and visual effects artist for projection & exhibitions, Mark Patch. With over 20 years experience the US born, Melbourne-based artist was the Creative Director, Lead Designer & Animator for Grande Exhibitions' ...'The Leonardo da Vinci Collection' and recently completed work on the Vincent Van Gogh exhibition for Australia's first immersive digital art gallery, The Lume https://thelume.com.au/ which is due to open in 2021. https://vimeo.com/akult #LinkedInTopVoice #art #artist #digitalart #projectionart #digitalartist #projectionartist #projectionmapping #exhibition #exhibitiondesign #exhibitionartist #animation #animator #storytelling #visualeffects #visualart #technology #dorothydistefano #visualartist #culture #contemporaryart #artsandculture #artmatters
15.01.2022 'High Loop' is an urban intervention proposal created by 100architects for the renovation of Puji Road Pedestrian bridge in Shanghai. Extending over a kilometre in length, the grey asphalt gives way to bold and bright colours, turning the bridge into an eye-catching elevated promenade. The design strategy defines the different circulations by colours, creating a hierarchy of different rhythms and paces in which the bridge can be transited. While a straight lane in electric lime colour defines the fast track for bicycles and motorbikes, a winding path in magenta was purposely introduced to slow down the pedestrian circulation. #design #designstrategy #colour #architects #architecture #placemaking #experience #experiencedesign
