In the weeks and even days leading up to Christmas we often receive calls from separated parents complaining that the other parent has changed the arrangements for Christmas without consulting them. One parent may refuse to allow the other parent to see the children and recently separated parents may not have turned their minds to Christmas holiday arrangements. In 2020, that deadline falls on Friday, 13 November. With a few exceptions, before filing a parenting application in the Family Court you must attend mediation or Family Dispute Resolution (FDR). Mediation can be invaluable in resolving disputes, however, there can also be lengthy waiting lists and delays. We’re here to help! 11.01.2022 Christmas is traditionally a time of joy for families, but for victims of domestic abuse it can be a time of increased trauma. Statistics show significant increases in domestic violence incidents during the Christmas holiday period when compared to the rest of the year. If you suspect someone you know is experiencing domestic violence reach out to them. Sometimes the most important thing is letting them know you’re there for them. OVIS will also be open throughout the Christmas period for the ones that need it most.
