02.01.2022 Perth, WA 30 September, 2020 - Ms Barbara McNaught is extremely distressed about media statements questioning her charity Momentum For Australia (MA). MA is the proud host of Western Australia’s most recognized charitable events including Pink Ribbon Ball, Men in Black Ball, International Women’s Day and the Kiss Violence Against Women Goodbye campaign. Through these events MA have been the catalyst for increasing and educating the West Australian community about domestic vi...olence towards women, men’s mental health and breast cancer. The events have served as a platform for speakers such as Ms Dana Vulin who was the subject of a horrific attack resulting in severe burns to her body, Mr Tim Marney (the former Under Treasurer for WA) who spoke of his experience of depression and how to turn it around, Mr Eric Ripper (former leader of the WA ALP) who spoke of his journey countering depression. Senior political figures such as Ms Julie Bishop (former Minister for Foreign Affairs) have praised MA for the work it has done in raising awareness. Ms Quentin Bryce, former Governor General of Australia, supported the MA’s event International Women’s’ Day (highlighting domestic violence against women). Breast cancer victims, men suffering from depression and women the subject of domestic violence have all become self-empowered through the events. MA has changed their lives forever and the lives of others in the same predicament who take solace from the high- profile speakers and supporters of MA. No other charity has attracted such high-profile figures in Western Australia. MA has done this by paying for sophisticated and extremely well-publicised events at places such as the Perth Convention Centre, the Hyatt and Crown Towers. It goes without saying that the cost of such events is extremely high. This has occurred over a period of 18 years cementing the charity as one that has promoted these causes like no other charity in Western Australia. The figures relating to the charity are publicly available, and always have been, on the internet. There are no secrets. As President Ms Barbara McNaught has worked tirelessly to support the functions, organize the speakers, sell tickets and promote the campaigns of awareness. Over the period of its entire operation MA has donated $550,000 to the causes. But what has happened is that no other body has promoted these causes as effectively as Momentum For Australia and Ms Barbara McNaught. It would be a tragedy if the charity is now smashed as a result of recent publicity. Any suggestion that Ms McNaught and her family are living the life due to this charity is false. Ms McNaught owns no real estate, has no shares, and owns a small car. Ms McNaught’s income is $66,000 gross, her net income is $50,000 gross.
