21.01.2022 Parents role in a child’s musical learning? It is of paramount importance to a child’s musical development that the parent is present, and an active participant, in both the lessons and practice. Musical or not, the Parental presence creates a crucial support vessel for the child. This allows: the child to feel relaxed, secure and comfortable... addressing issues that a child can unintentionally overlook reinforce concepts discussed in the lessons at home overcome problematic passages or musical concepts introduce and play musical games relay any problems back to the teacher for future discussion / development This is why it is encouraged that Parents and relatives are always directly involved at Momentum Music Studios. #richmond #melbourne #australia #music #parents #children #fun #life #teacher #student #piano #support #happy #appreciation #NoLimits #development #learning #GrowthMindset #instagood #sound
17.01.2022 Balance between the hands Take your playing technique to the next level! Balance between the hands is have two different volumes representing melody and accompaniment. Tips to learn this. * Exaggerate the voices - play one voice fortissimo and the other pianissimo. This may sound as though your bashing, however it is far easier to bring the volume down after than increase.... * Scales - play one hand staccato and the other legato. Swap the hands around. This will increase dexterity of the hands also make scales more exciting and beneficial! #music #learning #fun #thought #Instagood #Motivation #teacher #richmond #student #melbourne #piano #notes #school #studio #play #happy #followme #friends #smile #arts #lifelessons #lifestyle #Sound #inspiration #australia #hands #balance #melody #voice
17.01.2022 When should music education begin? Zoltán Kodály replied,I used to say that music should be taught to a child nine months before it’s birth. Now I say it should be taught nine months before the birth of it’s mother. Music can not describe it can only suggests. Therefore we can all develop musically at any age, with the exception of certain disabilities. After five months of gestation the middle and inner ear of the human foetus have attained almost adult size, so the sense ...of hearing is quite strong. American magazine psychology today reports a study by psychologist of seven pregnant women who were addicted to neighbours (shown five days a week in Belfast) after the births, six of the seven infants went into a ‘quiet alert’ state the moment the theme music started. Of eight babies born to mothers who did not watch soaps, only two showed any interest in the music. Peter Hepper, one of the psychologists, said that ‘fractious babies will suddenly calm down at the opening bars of their mothers favourite show’ - Sydney morning herald ,30 August 1989. A students musical development should start from as early as possible. Do not assume that a child has to be a certain age before they start as this only applies to physical development and its limitations, not a child’s musical development. #music #classicalmusic #piano #education #kodaly #children #development #mind #earlychildhoodeducation #melbourne #richmond #australia #notes #learning #wednesday
15.01.2022 It is much more important who the singing master at Kisvarda (small village) is that who the director of the opera house is, because a poor director will fail. But a bad teacher may kill the love of music for 30 years from 30 classes of pupils - Zoltan Kodaly. The importance of finding/ having a good teacher is outlined in the above quote. Every lesson should leave a studen...t feeling more confident and with a greater sense of progress. Every student or parent should take their time selecting the teacher. Find the right teacher who inspires the student and leaves them with a sense of ambition, not defeat. So many people say to me how difficult it must be to learn music - the truth is, it’s not, it should be a fun and rewarding process. It is the teachers role to make it as easy possible to learn. To create a safe, fun and manageable learning atmosphere. To ensure the student is not overwhelmed and keep the student engaged, thus ensuring retention. Giving the student strategies to overcome difficult parts, not fear them - as a pose to just go away and practice that for a week. I am also a strong believer that a student can ring, email, text anytime between lessons ask for help. A teachers job does not start and stop within the lesson time - it is constant and always! #music #education #piano #learning #fun #richmond #music #love #kodaly #inspire #melbourne #mindfulness #student #teacher #arts #creative #notes #momentummusicstudios #pianoteacher #pedagogy #life #wednesday See more
13.01.2022 The 4 Points when learning music. Use this checklist to assist in learning music and how to identify what to work on. * Correct notes - notes are 50% pitch and 50% rhythm. Always double check, count and read as you play. ... * Correct sound - it’s paramount. Sound should always be deliberate. Is it meant to be round, soft, loud, accented, balanced, does it ring for desired length. * Correct technique - technique is vital, and you should be relaxed at all times, correct technique means things are easier to play and less damage done. * Is it musical? - Are you doing something with the shape? Does it flow? Is it repetitive? Anything we play should be musical. Hope this helps, HAPPY PRACTICE! #music #learning #fun #thought #Instagood #Motivation #teacher #richmond #student #melbourne #piano #notes #school #studio #play #happy #followme #friends #smile #arts #lifelessons #lifestyle #Sound #inspiratio

03.01.2022 AUSTRALIA'S ONLY PIANO MUSEUM The small New South Wales town of Neville might seem a strange place for a piano museum. But for curator Raymond Day-Hakker,... it's the perfect fit. The town's cool and dry climate is the ideal spot to store and maintain pianos, which would otherwise rust in the salty suburbs of Sydney. The Golden Era Piano Museum boasts dozens of pianos from across the globe, recently welcoming a 19th century upright piano brought to Australia by a German migrant in 1888. Mr Day-Hakker said all of the pianos in the museum tell a rich history of Australia's early colonial settlers. "The stories of them and how families enjoyed them and used them, played them, learnt on them, shared experiences...it's a marvellous thing to preserve," he said. Donal Sheil
03.01.2022 Initial learning: how to approach a new piece. For a young beginner approaching a larger piece can be daunting. But applying a few simple steps can improve efficiency and productivity. * Speed, go as slow as possible - This allows eye movement to keep up increasing attention to detail.... * Hands Together - Don’t seperate the hands as this does nothing for improving reading. Although there is a time and place for this, don’t drag out the process by doing so unnecessarily. * Count out aloud- This will place all rhythm into respective groups and benefit your internal metronome. Also helps to identify weaker passages you may have overlooked. * Fingering - stick to a single fingering, mark it in and don’t change it. These steps applied on day one will result in the best outcome possible and the most productive use of your time! #music #learning #fun #thought #Instagood #Motivation #teacher #richmond #student #melbourne #piano #notes #school #studio #play #happy #followme #friends #smile #arts #lifelessons #lifestyle #Sound #inspiration

02.01.2022 Enjoyment and Learning. Benefit does not out weigh enjoyment. We play music to have fun, thus we must enjoy what we play, that needs to be the priority.
