16.01.2022 Contrary to earlier advice that has been disseminated through various media outlets, the planned hazard reduction burn for Chapman Street in Cooma set for Friday 28th August has been delayed by 24hrs. Smoke dispersion modelling has indicated that on Friday the township Cooma and associated highways would be impacted on. Smoke was also to intensified overnight with a predicted surface inversion. This delay will have no adverse effect on the burn; this will now commence on the following day Saturday 29th August and conclude on Monday 31st August.
14.01.2022 The Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC have released their Summer Bushfire Outlook. It shows the Monaro and Snowy Mountain's grasslands are above average risk of fires. This summer will be very different to last one which centred on bush area. This year the danger is grasslands. As grasses and crops dry out, we will see an increasing risk of grass fires. Grass fires start easily and move quickly, and heatwaves will speed the drying of the grasses. Ensure you protect your famil...y and property by keeping grasses low in your Asset Protection Zone close to your home and buildings. Tall grass is a danger. It is safer and easier to keep your grasses low. As grass fires ignite easily, avoid driving or using spark generating equipment on dry grasses. Avoid mowing or slashing during periods of high temperatures or winds, and ensure that you have firefighting equipment immediately available. Some grassland areas of NSW are expecting Severe and potentially Extreme fire danger this weekend. While conditions are expected to be milder in the Snowy Monaro this weekend, now is the time to ensure that your plan is fireproof.
