25.01.2022 Look at those pearly whites! Did you know that Tasmanian Devils' large heads and strong necks give them one of the most powerful bites in the animal kingdom relative to their size? We want to say thank you for your help in looking after the dental health of the animals at Monarto Safari Park. Why? For your recent support of our online auction. Held in May, this year's auction focused on raising funds for our Animal Health Centre and in particular, dental equipment to treat... the smile-inducing species across both Zoos SA's sites. Thanks to your support and generous bidding, enhancements to our Animal Health Centre are already well underway with some key items purchased including a dental scaler, dental plate, as well as a number of upgrades to equipment and infrastructure. Thank you again for your invaluable support and for helping us provide tip-top care for our animals. Our smiles say it all. See more

25.01.2022 Just when you think 'Black & White Friday' can’t get any more exciting along comes a zinger a new zebra foal! The little foal, currently unsexed, was born on Friday to mum Kenya. The stunning stripy one is doing well and is currently in an off-display area with the dazzle. Thanks to Geoff Brooks for sharing these gorgeous pics of the foal which seems to have the leggiest legs around. PS: There's still time to make the most of our Black & White Friday deals (link in comments). Thank you!

24.01.2022 Fan Photo Friday! They say a picture says a thousand words and in this case, you only need to look at this young visitor's smile to see how much he is enjoying his Giraffe Safari experience. Thanks to Amanda Van-ree for sharing this wonderful picture of her son who she says, 'loved feeding the giraffes.' Tickets and vouchers for our Giraffe Safari experience are currently on sale and it is suitable for children (when accompanied by an adult) and big kids too. As well as... being a wonderful experience where you learn about our ginormous giraffe and their plight in the wild, your purchase helps us to continue our work to help save species like giraffe from extinction (and that makes us smile!) 23.01.2022 Did you know Addax are sadly listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature? Believed to be living in just one population in Niger, these stunning antelopes number just 30 to 90 mature individuals in the wild. As a conservation charity that exists to save species from extinction, we're determined to ensure this amazing antelope is around for generations to come. Make sure to keep an eye out for our 21 Addax at Monarto Safari Park. www.monartosafari.com.au/tickets/

23.01.2022 There's a new giraffe in town! Everyone, meet Noodle. The almost-two-year-old male giraffe arrived late last month after a lengthy trailer trip from Australia Zoo. We're pleased to say that after a quarantine period, Noodle was fully introduced to the bachelor herd yesterday and is settling in well. 21.01.2022 Happy 5th Birthday Enzi - watch as the chimps enjoy birthday enrichment with keeper Sarah

21.01.2022 Vale Saadani. It is with great sadness that we let you know of the passing of cheetah Saadani, who died on Friday 27 November. The nine-year-old male had only recently had a health check to assess some mild deterioration in his ocular health, but was otherwise deemed to be generally healthy. A thorough post mortem has been conducted and no clear cause of death was found, however, the veterinary team are awaiting the results of an extensive array of samples collected. Keepe...r Michelle, who works closely with our cheetah group, has some special words about Sadaani’s passing: Saadani had not long had his 9th birthday. Arriving at Monarto Safari Park with his brother six years ago from the Netherlands, we were so pleased when he finally was able to sire a litter of one male and three female cubs born in 2018 to female Kesho. Saadani was always so full of life with eyes that burned through to your soul and a bounding run that took your breath away. We are devastated at this loss. He will be sorely missed by all. Please leave any messages for our keepers in the comments below. See more

Please don't forget to book online. ... All mums and mum-figures will receive a chocolate and member mums will be entered into a competition to win a Panda & Friends experience at sister site Adelaide Zoo. Wishing you all a wonderful day. Monarto Safari Park's Black Rhinos and their exhibit upgrades are proudly sponsored by HardHat and Gold Rhino.

20.01.2022 We wanted to give you an update on Korongo's giraffe calf who was born on Friday afternoon. The last weekend was all about observation, with keepers closely monitoring the situation between her and mum. Unfortunately, by Sunday there was no interaction between mum and bub which led to keepers stepping in and giving her the necessary nutrients needed for survival. As it's still very early days we really do have everything crossed for the little one. So far, our keepers say ...they are pleased with her progress and that she is looking strong and healthy. At the moment, she’s in an off-limits area and being fed through a feeding tube but keepers are introducing her to the bottle (it usually takes up to five days before a giraffe calf will readily take to it). Thanks to everyone who has shown their support for this lanky little one. We will give you more updates soon. See more

19.01.2022 Everyone, we wanted to let you know that the giraffe calf born to Myeisha earlier this month has sadly passed away. An investigation is currently under way and our veterinary team are awaiting further test results before fully establishing the cause of death. Preliminary findings suggest that unfortunately the relationship between Myeisha and her calf was not fully established. Although the giraffe was seen attempting to feed from its mother on many occasions, it is thought... that Myeisha was producing insufficient milk. To supplement this, our keepers offered additional feeds to the calf and attempted to stimulate increased lactation in Myeisha. As we’re sure you understand, while our vets are dedicated to all the animals at our sites and will do their utmost to establish a cause, results could take some time. Many of you have been interested in the development of the little one since its birth so rather than wait for full results, we wanted to let you know now. Keepers are monitoring Myeisha and we’re pleased to report that both mum and the rest of the herd appear well. This is a sad time for our ungulate team and, indeed, all at Monarto Safari Park, and we greatly appreciate your support and kindness at this time.

We hope to welcome the newest rhino to Monarto Safari Park’s Wild Africa area mid-2022 and we can’t wait to hear their thundering hooves. 12.01.2022 Yummy time! Our keepers really love to treat our animals and in this case, it's African Crested Porcupine Oliver who is getting a tasty treat from keeper Gemma. Monarto Safari Park is home to two beautiful African Crested Porcupines, Oliver and Rita. The pair, both born in 2015, arrived in April 2017 after making the journey from Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Kansas, USA. The two porcupines are very inquisitive, and love digging and chewing everything throughout their exhi...bit. 11.01.2022 What youngster doens't enjoy bubbles? Looks like little 20-month-old Zola is enjoying some window washing action outside her dayroom as keepers wipe off the finger marks some little humans left behind. Lovely little Zola and her brother Enzi are taking in the action as keepers clean up ready for a new day at Monarto. Monarto Safari Park's Chimpanzee habitat is formed of a dayroom (as seen in this video) and a large outdoor exhibit filled with enriching equipment such as sw...ings, towers and water. Did you know? Chimpanzees are our closest living relative sharing approximately 98.7% of our DNA. Chimpanzees can show a wide range of emotions including fear, screaming when scared, hugging for comfort, smiling or laughing when happy. Zoos SA supports Chimpanzee conservation projects in Africa through raising awareness at keeper talks, Animal Experiences and through community campaigns. We also provide conservation support and funds to both the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary and the Jane Goodall Institute Tchimpounga Sanctuary in Africa. You can do your bit to help! When you donate your unused phones to Zoos SA as part of our They’re Calling on You campaign, the funds generated through recycling directly supports on-ground work with Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary and the Jane Goodall Institute Australia. You'll find collection boxes on the Chimpanzee platform. See more

09.01.2022 "Let's go this way...." We think this picture of Southern White Rhino mum Umqalia and her calf Eshe is worthy of some funny captions. Put your best in the comments below - we can't wait to read them.

09.01.2022 Check out little Zola, the one-year-old chimpanzee, as she follows the bubbles that keepers have dribbled down the glass of the day room as they wash and wipe off little (and not so little) fingerprints. As our members and visitors will know, the troop also has access to a large outdoor area to play in but watching the bubbles was clearly a lot more fun for little Zola! The chimpanzees at Monarto Safari Park enjoy regular enrichment as part of their day to day, which means... our keepers are kept on their toes as they think up new and fun things for the chimps to explore. Thanks to keeper Laura for sharing this lovely vision.

07.01.2022 Friends, some of you who visited Monarto Safari Park recently would have heard that Kinky the giraffe, known for the large kink in her neck, was pregnant. We’re sad to announce that while Kinky did give birth to a female calf earlier in the week, sadly it did not survive, passing away yesterday. Found by a member of staff at around 8:30 on Monday morning, the calf was by itself and not able to stand. Given that calves usually stand within half an hour of being born, when the ...rest of the herd moved away the team made the decision to relocate the calf to an off-limits giraffe shed where they could watch it more closely and assist as required. Once inside the shed, keepers and vets made sure to warm up the calf, who was incredibly cold, and give it some fluids. Though the team worked around the clock to care for her during the day and night, the calf continued to look unwell and only stood up a few times throughout the hours it was alive. Unfortunately, despite the team’s best efforts she died around midday on Tuesday. Post mortem results show the calf’s aorta (the main artery carrying blood away from the heart) exited from the wrong side of her heart, leading to poor blood oxygenation and energy levels. Such a major heart defect is sadly incompatible with life and this was reflected in her deteriorating condition and the eventual outcome. Thankfully, keepers report that Kinky is doing really well and behaving normally. Keepers believe that both Kinky and the rest of the herd soon realised something wasn’t right with the calf and moved away to let nature take its course, a stark reminder that natural selection and instinct are powerful things in the animal kingdom. Rest in peace, little giraffe.

06.01.2022 Fancy a relaxing day?... Thanks to Fran Mussared for sharing this stunning shot of two Cheetah stretching out and taking in the winter sun at Monarto Safari Park. As well as seeing the Cheetah from the comfort of the Zu-Loop bus, why not go one step further and take part in our Cheetah Experience?.. Join our dedicated keepers on this exclusive tour and get up close and personal with these gorgeous big cats as they snack on tasty treats, interact with each other and chi...rp and purr to communicate. You’ll learn all about the incredible Cheetah at Monarto Safari Park and hear about the plight of their cousins in the wild. See link in comments below. The Cheetah is Africa’s most endangered big cat with an estimated 6,700 cats remaining in the wild of eastern and south-western Africa. The problem, as with many other species fighting extinction, is complex and multifaceted, but can be attributed to issues such as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and the illegal wildlife trade. Together with our international partner the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) we are doing everything in our power to save this incredible species from extinction. See more

06.01.2022 It's official. This is going to be the sweetest, most heart-warming thing you'll see on Facebook this whole long weekend. Thanks to keeper Laura for sharing this CCTV vision of chimpanzee mum and daughter duo Hannah and Hope having a cuddly snooze. If you watch very closely you can see Hannah's chest rising as she enjoys her sweet slumber at just gone 7pm at night! Hope was born to first-time mum Hannah in February 2019 and was named by world-renowned primatologist Dr. J...ane Goodall of Jane Goodall Institute Australia. Heading to Monarto Safari Park to see the Chimpanzees and the other amazing species? Please make sure you book online prior to arrival as we still have restrictions on numbers allowed on site. 05.01.2022 Flying blackbucks! We wanted to share with you this stunning picture of Monarto Safari Park's majestic antelope. Male blackbucks are much larger than their female friends, and have a rich dark brown coat, while the girls are a lighter yellow-brown. Both sexes feature white rings around their eyes. Monarto Safari Park first became home to these gorgeous animals in 1983, when thirteen individuals arrived from Adelaide Zoo. Since then, Monarto Safari Park has bred over 300 Black...buck, many of which can be found in zoos across Australia. Want to leap in and visit? Head to the comments for the link.

05.01.2022 Our keeper talks are not only a great way to learn about animals but also to interact with our team of dedicated keepers. Keeper Simon (in this picture) is just one of the team that looks after the Tasmanian Devils both in front and behind the scenes. As well as the Tasmanian Devils that you will see when visiting, Simon and the team work alongside other wildlife institutions to breed an insurance population of devils in case there is no cure found for the cancerous facial... tumour that is wiping out the native population. Since 2013 Zoos SA has been successfully releasing Monarto Safari Park bred devils to Maria Island off the coast of Tasmania - with this year being very successful indeed. We think it's fair to say that there's so much to see and learn when you visit Monarto Safari Park. So please come along and see us soon. Planning to visit? Please make sure to reserve or book your tickets online and remember to observe guidance concerning COVID-19 safety. We all hope to see you soon! www.monartosafari.com.au/tickets
