25.01.2022 A couple of photos of our small free op shop. Through the generous donations from our local community we are able to provide free items to our clients. As fast as the goods come in they go out. We could really do with a couple more volunteers that would like to spend an hour or 2 a week sorting through the donations. We have very limited space so keeping everything tidy is an ongoing task. if you are interested in volunteering with the Op shop team please get in touch.

24.01.2022 At the moment we are still only open from 10-1 Mon,Wed,Fri. From June we are going to open 10-1 Mon-Fri, hopefully this will make it easier for people to access our service. We are still only operating with a small number of volunteers, who have done a great job of keeping the service open to those in need.

22.01.2022 This is our amazing garden, full of summer crops. The vegetables are harvested and given to our clients. Are you interested in gardening? We have a very small dedicated group working in the garden and it would be great to have a couple more volunteers who have a love of gardening or want to learn. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.

22.01.2022 We can assist international students who live in our area. We can provide food vouchers and food parcels. To check if you are in our area got to our peak body's website cisvic.org.au . You can search by postcode or suburb name

19.01.2022 Thanks once again to Hoyts Chadstone for their very generous donation of boxes and boxes of chocolate treats, this will put a smile on our clients faces. Thank you for again thinking of our organisation.

15.01.2022 Thanks to all the Monash Oakleigh volunteers who are keeping the doors open for our essential service, providing support for the most vulnerable. Thanks to our peak body Community Information Service Vic [CISVic] for their tireless efforts in keeping all the agencies informed of the latest developments and requirements. Thanks to all the government agencies and Ministers that must be working around the clock to keep the flow of information coming out to all the community organisations. Thanks to the Premier Dan Andrews and the Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton who are fronting up every day to keep us informed they must be exhausted. Stay safe everyone

14.01.2022 We received a delivery today from Merewyn and the Grocery team at Coles . This will be very well received by our clients. The photo shows just a small selection of the delivery received. Thank you so much for thinking of our organisation,it is very much appreciated

12.01.2022 We pride ourselves on being a part of the local community. The support we receive from community partners means we are able to provide more assistance to our clients. One of our partners is The Corner Store network who provide us with preserves, bottled fruit and even coffee beans at Christmas for our clients. We congratulate Alice Maher on her recent Barack Obama scholarship award. This organisation is doing some fantastic life changing work in Timor Leste. Well done to everyone involved. If you enjoy good coffee why not go in and try theirs 42 regent St Oakleigh

10.01.2022 I want to share this message that Mother Teresa wrote, it is very pertinent to our lives today. And the people stayed home, And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

10.01.2022 Our Community House is run entirely by dedicated volunteers. We provide emergency relief food vouchers, food parcels and free Op Shop items. We assisted 280 clients and their families in December with vouchers, food and Christmas presents. We are always grateful for community donations and we are a registered charity for tax deduction purposes.

08.01.2022 The garden is looking good with the winter planting, maintenance and building some new wicking beds. Joy is busy touching up the painting and Joy and Phil are doing a great job building the wicking beds.

08.01.2022 A big thank you to the RACV, who have been cooking vegetarian meals in their kitchens and donating these meals to organisations such as ours. These meals have been delivered weekly and have been a very welcome addition to our food pantry to give to our clients. Really good quality nutritious meals that have been much appreciated by our clients.

06.01.2022 The new year has begun and we are now open again to support our community. Yesterday was a busy start with over 30 people coming through the door seeking support. We had a welcome delivery from the Oz Harvest people, which provided a much needed boost to our fresh food supplies.

06.01.2022 Thinking about getting involved in your local community this year? We are always looking for new volunteers to ensure our community House keeps running smoothly. If you wanted to work with our clients then a 6 week course through our peak body is required. There are other ways to volunteer such as helping in the Op shop, unpacking our fortnightly delivery from Foodbank, or maybe working in our community garden. We would love to hear from you.

05.01.2022 We are here to support people in our community who are struggling at the moment

05.01.2022 A big thank you to Hoyts Chadstone! They have donated several boxes of goods to give out to our clients. This is just a sample of the goods Hoyts have donated. Our clients are very happy to receive some treats at this time.A little girl was very excited to get a container of Fairy Floss!

05.01.2022 Sadly we are in lock-down again but it is important that do everything we can to get this under control again. We have decided to continue with our current arrangement of no entry to the building but opening 5 days a week 10- 1pm as we feel the need will continue to grow. Stay safe everyone

04.01.2022 Another one of our fantastic support partners Oz Harvest making their weekly delivery of fresh food. Which means we have more good quality food to distribute to our clients. This food would otherwise being going to landfill but Oz Harvest are collecting goods from the Supermarkets and delivering to organisations such as ours. Sadly the demand for food keeps on increasing, a lot of people are really doing it tough. Government payments need to increase particularly Newstart!

03.01.2022 Thanks to a Victorian State government grant [Working for Victoria] we have been able to access a Community Support Worker paid position for 6 months. During this COVID time we had to reduce our opening hours as a number of our volunteers are not able to volunteer. Now we are back to normal operating hours 10-3.30 pm Monday to Friday. This will allow greater access for our clients. Which is great news as demand has really started to increase .

01.01.2022 If you have ever wondered why people end up homeless, I recommend you watch Filthy Rich and Homeless on SBS. Our organisation is assisting homeless people every week. On average 25% of our clients are homeless. We see women and children fleeing domestic violence being put up for a few days in a motel. We see people forced to live in sub standard boarding houses, where they live in constant fear of being robbed or assaulted and the terrible irony is that the rent for a squalid... room takes nearly all your Centrelink payment. We see people couch surfing for a day here and there. We see people living in their car, or sleeping rough in door ways. Now is the time for the Federal government to put funding into nation building, affordable social housing is desperately needed right now. This would give trades people real jobs, not this ridiculous renovation scheme that benefits so few people. See more

01.01.2022 It is Volunteer Week a big thank you to all our amazing volunteers, who give so freely of their time to support us in the work we do supporting people in our community who are doing it tough. This a photo of our lovely volunteers back when we could stand close together. Hopefully that will come again soon!
