19.01.2022 English pronouns used to indicate social hierarchies (like Korean does now, for example): you'd use a plural pronoun for your 'superiors' and a singular pronoun for your equals and 'inferiors' (mostly). In the 1600s, though, the Quakers showed their rejection of these social hierarchies by deliberately addressing everyone with the singular 'thee' or 'thou'. People were outraged. Dr. Teresa M. Bejan writes here about the Quakers, their pronouns, and what all of this might tell us about singular 'they'.
16.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just a quick message to say that I hope you're all well, and settling into your units. I understand you've been getting a lot of emails, and there have been a couple of zigs and zags during this semester. Stay well and safe, Howie P.S. I understand pets are a common theme in zoom sessions, so allow me to introduce you to my zoom-mate Henny Penny (named by my youngest). I look forward to meeting yours
