08.01.2022 Nominations have opened for the Students' Teaching Choice awards. If you have had an excellent professor, TA, lecturer, etc this semester, definitely put their name in so they can get some recognition. https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSe0XvM-gxyar6fk-N/viewform Faculty staff have worked really hard to keep the units on track, I can only imagine how difficult it would have been to keep things running smoothly this semester. That's why I put in six nominations this morning. Shout out to the wonderful faculty members that care about students' experiences.

05.01.2022 Hello everyone, We want to share with you our efforts to support the Black Lives Matter movement in Australia, by highlighting the amazing work being accomplished by the Bridging the Gap Foundation. Back at our Eco Dinner in semester 2 last year, attendees and committee members generously made donations in support of the National Congress of Australia's First Peoples, though unfortunately this organisation closed its doors soon thereafter, as a result of extremely limited ...funding. So, we have decided to instead dedicate the raised money towards the Bridging The Gap Foundation For Indigenous Health and Education. This organisation wishes to improve and advance the lives of Indigenous Australians by increasing our scientific understanding of the medical, health and education challenges that Indigenous Australians face. The foundation raises funds to undertake essential research, and current projects include but are not limited to - HealthLab, aimed at reducing the risk of chronic and preventable diseases - Growing Our Own, which aims to break the cycle of visiting teacher turnover in remote communities by providing an alternative resource: qualified local Indigenous teachers, and - The National Indigenous Preventative Health & Educational Program (NIPHEP), a comprehensive sport and health program aiming to improve remote health and education in the Northern Territory. As well as the donation from the club and Eco Dinner attendees, individual members of our committee are making personal donations to aid the cause. If you would also like to donate, you can do so at this link: https://btgfoundation.com.au/donate.php To bring about change and justice for the First Nations community, we must keep the ball rolling. There are many more organisations which are fighting for justice and equal opportunity for Indigenous Australians. We have listed some below, so that if you wish to find other avenues to support the movement, you can. - https://commonground.raisely.com/ - https://antar.org.au/donate-antar - https://covid19-first-nations-community-impacts.raisely.com/ - https://changetherecord.org.au/donate We hope you all stay safe and healthy, and continue to support each other. With much love, the Biological Society Committee.
