24.01.2022 The saying the bigger they are the harder they fall has never been more truer than tonight. The big talking FC Melbourne Athletic were sitting pretty at the top of the State League One table and boy were they talking like big shots. The game was built as a showdown with Monash bringing in old favourites Ahmed Hakim, Mohammed Taha and James Oana. Monash also signed two new players with Edward Tasker crossing the University divide from Melbourne University Futsal Club and Rob U...rbaniak being given their debuts. The game started at a controlled pace, with Monash gaining the early momentum. However, against the run of play Melbourne snagged a goal to take the lead. Arm Phuttharat provided a piece of magic with a well saved bicycle kick, before he steered home the equaliser. Monash continued to create chances with Melbourne’s goal-keeper making several big saves. The missed chances came back to haunt Monash as Melbourne once again took the lead with a well-placed shot. Melbourne looked to stem the tide of Monash pressure by slowing down the pace, but the Monash pressure was relentless, and Ahmed won a well-deserved penalty. Big boy Maxim Solovyev was subbed on to take the penalty and he delivered in a true striker’s fashion, burying it in the right-hand corner. With a minute and a half to go, Monash pushed for the win and after a great passing play Maxi rocketed a ball to the back post with Hall of Famer James Edward Oana there to finish off the play. 30 seconds later, Melbourne responded with a goal to level up the game with a minute to go and the game looked set for a draw. HOWEVER, with time LITERALLY expiring, Ahmed dribbled 3 players before launching a missile as the last second of the clock disappeared. As the siren rang around the stadium Ahmed’s shot hit the back of the net and the goal was given. 4-3 with the last kick of the game. The Monash boys rushed onto the field to celebrate a famous and well-deserved win! #SuckOnThatMelbourne

20.01.2022 Wishing our #5 Seamus Carr a very happy birthday and we know with age, comes experience and knowledge so we're expecting big things from our veteran defender this Sunday against RMIT Futsal Club!

09.01.2022 The Glen Waverley Futsal Club rivalry goes further than the 3 points on offer with the bragging rights over friends proving much more desirable in a clash between two teams at opposite ends of the table. The game started brightly for Monash as the boys pushed for the opening goal. Monash controlled the opening stages of the game, having a majority of the possession but failing to create clear cut chances. Glen Waverley looked slow and weighed down by the kebabs their sponsor... was force-feeding them, however, they took a surprise lead and consolidated it with another 2 goals heading into half time. Monash’s fighting spirit was on display though as they pulled back a goal right on the half time whistle to finish the half 3-1. Arm Phuttharat strolled past two players before a deadly finish into the bottom left corner. The boys picked up where they left off scoring the first goal of the half, after some quick build up play that allowed Arm to find Maxim Solovyev at the far post who scored a birthday goal. However to their credit, Glen Waverley managed to put the pressure back on by scoring another goal against the run of play, pushing their lead back to 2 goals, 4-2. Finally, Monash started to see the fruit of their labour by scoring the next two goals. Michael Grogan’s determination saw him win the ball back twice before burying the ball past the keeper. Grogan’s effort on the goal was a real lift for the team. Arm once again mesmerised the opposition defence, walking past them as if they were helpless, static gnomes, his final shot was rebounded straight to Biles who finished off a great move. Monash used their momentum to search for a winner in the last minutes of the game. An unfortunate own-goal cost Monash the lead before Biles restored parity by slotting home the equaliser under a scrambling goal-keeper with a minute left on the clock. As the clock wound down a draw looked inevitable and the boys would have been rewarded for their grit and determination with at least a point. However, sport is not a fairy-tale and with 30 seconds left in the game Glen Waverley snatched the win with another scrappy goal, heartbreak at the death! The game ended 5-6 to Glen Waverley, with some decision not going Monash’s way in the final stage of the game. Nevertheless, the game proved to be a belter and whilst Glen Waverley gain 3 valuable points Monash could take a lot of positives from a game they could have easily won. Their combination play was a real highlight and at times the Glen Waverley team simply could not keep up with the movement of Monash. Special mentions to Seamus Carr from his tireless running and Dan Riz for making some crucial saves, however, the Monash Futsal Club Man of the Match goes to Arm Phuttharat for his brilliance in the final third, he made a lot of defenders look very silly. Special thanks to James Oana for submitting this week's match report.

08.01.2022 This week saw another University battle as the Monash University faithful went up against RMIT. To say this season had been very inconsistent for Monash would be an understatement but for the first time, in a long time, Monash were able to name an unchanged lineup. All the work to get this cohort together off the field paid off on the field, as a blistering start by the Monash boys saw them race to an early lead. Maxim Solovyev holding off his defender placed the ball in fr...ont of James Oana, who took the ball forward before finding Maxi at the back-post who finished the scintillating play. Ali Haidar doubled the lead when he took on a few players before launching a ball into the keeper with enough ferocity to cause the keeper to wet himself and turn the ball into the net. The third goal saw all-round good guy Jimmy O and the Hulk Maxi link up once again, with Jimmy finishing the play this time. After being subbed on, Arm Phuttharat proceeded to run literal rings around the opposition, before burying the fourth goal. Grogan finished off more brilliant build-up play with an easy tap-in at the back post. Even James Bernard got in on the act, putting away a rebound from a Solovyev shot to bury the team's sixth goal. From a corner, Ahmed made a late run where he cracked an awful shot, he sliced it straight to Edward Tasker who put the ball into an open net at the back-post, which was the first of his two first half goals. Going into the break 8-0 up, the half time message was definitely to improve the team's negative goal difference. The second-half started with just that as Seamus Carr fresh from his birthday drinks strolled down the pitch to net the team's 9th. Michael Grogan cracked a wonder strike from just inside the half which rattled the post, the ball rebounded back to Grogan who cracked it again from the same spot and buried the ball in bottom right corner. WOW. Monash now hit double digits for the first time this season! Mohammed Taha clearly inspired by Grogan’s strike, said anything you can do I can do! from the same spot on the right wing, Mo unleashed a shot which also went in off the post. While Arm and Seamus finished off the scoring adding their braces, the emphasis was definitely on the "team" and having 9 individual goalscorers and a clean sheet from Matthew Biles, it shows just how rejuvenated the team has become in recent weeks. Now off the back of 4 straight wins, we face top of the table Glen Waverley Futsal Club next week in a game that is sure to bring the crowds! Come down to Futsal Oz - Thomastown next Sunday at 3:45pm to find out just how rejuvenated this Monash side is!
