23.01.2022 We’ve loved seeing lots of familiar little faces returning to our Outdoor Storytimeswe cannot believe how much you’ve all grown! Some of these attendees (pictured) have been coming to our sessions since they were as young as two months old, progressing through Babytime to Storytime, and now while we transition to covid-normal, Outdoor Storytime. One family member commented about how the set-up of Outdoor Storytime, with more space and less noise, makes it easier for kids w...ho have spent a lot of time at home to adjust to activities such as this. We have also welcomed a couple Covid babies who for the first time watched and observed other children with as much joy as they watched the books being read! Storytime is always important, but as we find our way forward out of pandemic life, it's more important than ever for children in their early years. For early literacy development, socialisation, special time with their caregiver and just plain fun, Storytime is one of the most steady and bountiful early childhood learning experiences. Book your places for Outdoor Storytime from 10am the day prior. www.monlib.vic.gov.au/outdoor-st #librarieschangelives #monash #monashlibraries #storytime #earlyliteracy #reading
23.01.2022 Today with our libraries opening for more visitors and back to 'normal' hours we are asking our customers to sign in with a new system. Download the Sine Pro app to your mobile and you can sign in yourself when visiting. The App automatically signs you out when leaving. Our friendly staff can help you if you don't have a mobile and we have a check-in iPad station at each branch. Signing in is required under Victorian State Government requirements.
20.01.2022 The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month signifies the moment when hostilities during WWI on the Western Front formally ceased. This is of course Remembrance Day. After nearly a year of an extreme focus on the pandemic, we turn our focus and remember the men, women and animals who served and died during the War, and all wars, both in service and as civilian casualties. ... We pay special tribute to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service men and women who continue to seek recognition for their service. We will remember them. Lest we forget. 20.01.2022 After having to remove our Storytime videos after copyright permissions changed we have since brought you Outdoor Storytime and Zoom Storytime. But check this out! Youth Librarian Emily has created another story of her own with help from My Goggley Eyes and it's freely available on our YouTube channel. Anytime! Enjoy her gorgeous storytelling and find out why Mr Goggley Eyes was feeling unhappy and how he turned his frown upside down!... https://youtu.be/UIjaHNvqrgE #librarieschangelives
17.01.2022 Tomorrow, our six branches will return to standard opening times. This means later closing times on weekdays, and access on Sundays at Clayton and Glen Waverley Libraries. Mulgrave will increase to its full span of hours. With tens of thousands of people returning to their workplaces, many people will lose some weekday flexibility and once again need our extended hours.... So we are pleased to restore our standard opening times to ensure everybody can access the library. www.monlib.vic.gov.au/branches And with library visits no longer having a time limit, you can take your time while you're with us. We look forward to you lingering a little longer, seeing you amble alongside the shelves as you browse, and sitting for a while as you study or read. #librarieschangelives #monash #monashlibraries #publiclibraries
16.01.2022 From Monday we look forward to concurrently welcoming greatly increased volumes of customers into our libraries! The eased restrictions mean that branch capacity will range from 45-80 people depending on branch size. Mulgrave remains at 3 people at any one time. We will also open our internal return chutes once again. After hours chutes will revert back to being for after hours returns only.... Customers will also be able to enjoy longer visits as the current time limit will cease. As you can see, our chairs have missed you too and all their frowns are turning upside down at the news of them being put to use again! We can't wait to see your beautiful (but masked) faces as you linger at last in our libraries! #librarieschangelives #monash #monashlibraries #publiclibraries
14.01.2022 Solar Buddy Program: To Illuminate a Child's Future SolarBuddy is an Australian charity uniting a global community with a big dream to gift six million solar lights to children living in energy poverty by 2030. In partnership with Sustainable Monash, we are giving up to 50 families the opportunity to assemble up to two solar lights each that will then be distributed globally to children in need across the globe. Children in the families can also write a letter to their Budd...y who will receive the lights. Once you have been registered you will be contacted by email to get further information on the program, to confirm the number of lights you would like for your family and to arrange collection from one of our branch libraries. Assembled lights (and letters) will need to be returned to the library by Wednesday 30 December. Register: www.trybooking.com/BMMPU
14.01.2022 As we approach the end of another year, people often take a few moments to reflect on the past and the future. To help you do just that, we've assembled some images of local demolition and construction. As Picasso said: "Every act of creation is first an act of destruction." This bridge is the Alvie Road railway bridge under construction. ... The Glen Alvie Estate was intended to deliver what might now be called country club resort living and was based on about 50 acres of farmland. The Glen Alvie Estate however never came to be. The Great Depression hit before further work and land sales could be completed. With the real estate companies involved becoming insolvent, the Shire of Mulgrave launched a land sale in 1938 in an attempt to recoup its costs for road-making charges and unpaid municipal rates. The land was eventually developed but the suburb created was quite different from what was originally planned. View the full album: https://flic.kr/s/aHskEjXZAh
