13.01.2022 Nursing student and social media ambassador, Jen, shares her placement essentials: 1 Nursing clinical portfolio: We (nursing students) have additional competencies and assessments to complete, and we are also assessed on how well we do during our clinical placements. 2 Stethoscope: I use my stethoscope to take blood pressures, auscultate hearts and lungs, and do head-to-toe and physical assessments on my patients. 3 Reference Notes: I bring these just in case I need to ...look anything up. 4 Fob Watch: It's a handy watch which you can pin on your scrubs/shirt. I use this when I'm assessing my patient's respiratory and pulse rates. 5 Name badge: For identification purposes. 6 Pen torch/penlight: I use this when I check for pupillary responses and do neurological assessments. 7 Pens and highlighters: These are a MUST! It's so important to bring spare ones as well because it's so easy to lose them when you're in the ward. 8 Notebook: If I'm unfamiliar with a drug, disease or medical terminology, I write them down so I can revise them at home.
