24.01.2022 With people working from home now more than ever, this is a timely reminder we need more than 3 metres to pass our vehicles down the street safely. Next time you park your vehicle on the street please take a minute to look and ask yourself, is that more than 3 metres?

22.01.2022 An update from our members assisting in the massive storm recovery clean-up as well as a request from us for YOUR help! Captured here in a moment of well-ear...ned rest yesterday, Jenny, Victor, Chris, and Scott assisted clearing roads of some seriously big trees. Deputy Controller Training, Jenny, was excited to finally find the perfect sized chainsaw! Our crew members from Traralgon returned home and by all reports Meg did Monash proud as crew leader for the Land Based Swift Water Rescue crews during their time. Patrick, Jeroen, Jenny and Andrew had a very early start this morning heading out to Emerald Unit, we have just heard they have now returned to base safe and sound. Another crew is getting ready to head out there tomorrow to cover any new tasks that come in so that local crews can get some rest. And now, we need to ask you for your help! We rely on donations from the community to provide the extremely high level of service you get from Monash Unit. Having the equipment and resources to cover incidents happening here in Monash as well as our neighbouring areas and across the state requires a sustained fundraising effort and over the past 18 months the COVID-19 pandemic has made many of our usual fundraising activities impossible. For the rest of June we will be asking you to please visit our GiveNow page at www.givenow.com.au/sesmonashunit and give what you can- or if you live outside of Monash, please consider giving to your local unit. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and a receipt will be provided at the time of donation. You can also support us through the Ritchies IGA Community Benefit Program- find out more here ritchies.com.au/loyalty. We would really appreciate if you could share this post to your friends and networks to help us get the word out

18.01.2022 Gone Home - Lillian Beard OAM It is with sadness that together we learn of the news that Lillian passed away peacefully last night - Friday 30 October 2020. Li...llian was a dedicated member and volunteer with over 70 years of service to Girl Guides and Scouts. In 2004 Lillian was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her commitment and enduring impact to the lives of many through the Guiding and Scouting Movements. Lillian’s Guiding career started as a girl including as a Sea Ranger which is what we now know as Olaves. An outstanding leader across the many volunteer leadership roles held by Lillian with Girl Guides and Scouts throughout her 70 plus years. Lillian was deeply dedicated to the development of girls, young women and Girl Guide leaders. Some of Lillian’s leadership roles included: - Girl Guide Unit Leader Yarraville - Girl Guide Unit Leader Northcote - Girl Guide Unit Leader Melbourne - Girl Guide Unit Leader Essendon - Girl Guide District Leader Northcote East - Girl Guide Division Commissioner Essendon Division - Girl Guide Assistant Region Leader North Metro Region - Girl Guide Assistant Archivist - Girl Guide Trainer - Girl Guide Camp Assessor - Girl Guide and Scout Sailing Centre Committee Chair - Scouts and Girl Guides Melbourne Gang Show Leader - Rowallan Sheila Girl Guide Campsite Convenor - Essendon Girl Guide Opportunity Shop While the pandemic prevented Lillian and I from meeting, we communicated regularly through Pam Woodhams, who visited Lillian weekly. Lillian had a keen eye for Guiding news and interests and through Pam provided encouragement, wisdom and good old you can do this type of support. Lillian you will be missed by many and we thank you for all you gave to Girl Guides - your impact has been immense. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lillian’s Guiding Sisters, Scouting friends and family. Funeral details (video link) will be shared once confirmed. Janelle Howell State Commissioner, Girl Guides Victoria

10.01.2022 This is where it all started

09.01.2022 As you’re undoubtedly aware the Victorian Government announcement today about a change of plans relating to the easing of coronavirus restrictions. The Coronavirus EMT has actively monitored this dynamic situation. We are currently working through the information from the announcements, but we are awaiting the release of the directions from the Chief Health Officer on Monday 22nd. Once we have that information, we will provide advice on any changes.... The current concerns relate to extended family transmission and social gatherings, not community activities or sport. The changes to the restrictions announced by government should not have a significant effect on our return to face-to-face Scouting, and we should continue as currently planned. Thank you for your patience.

08.01.2022 Two years ago, the OZ Venture team embarked on a journey that would ultimately reshape the way Australian Ventures ran. It is with much sadness that we announc...e Oz Venture 2021 will not be proceeding as a national event next January. The current rapidly changing circumstances with COVID-19 means our attendee's safety can’t be guaranteed, a risk we can’t take in good faith. At this point in time, we do not believe it would be responsible to host an event of this nature. We are so thankful to everyone who has supported Oz Venture throughout this journey. From constant photos of rubber ducks on Instagram, to the dedication and countless hours of work by our Scouting peers. Whether you are a Youth Member, Leader, Parent or Supplier, we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support, messages of encouragement and excitement. The enthusiasm and passion shown by Youth Members for Australian and International expeditions alike highlights the promising future for an active, connected Scouting world. From the beginning Oz Venture involved Youth Members in the planning of the event, helping to guide the direction of the program and marketing, at both a national and contingent level. The fact that over 900 people signed up to the event during such challenging times is a testament to the strength and unity of the Scouting community. This decision was not made light-heartedly. As a team of volunteers, we were all so excited and invested in shaping a new, exciting Scouting experience. Major Events are a staple of the Scouting calendar and Youth Member’s developmental journey, to lose one is devastating. Our team will be working hard to deliver all refunds swiftly over the next 6 weeks. The OZ Venture team will be refunding all payments made as part of the application process. These funds will be returned on the credit card that made the payments, so for most of you, no action is required. If you did not pay by credit card or your credit card has expired, please email [email protected]. Note that as part of this process OZ Venture is not refunding any merchandise sold via the store or contingents. We are truly sorry that Oz Venture is not able to proceed. I am incredibly proud and thankful of everyone who has been involved and we look forward to banding together again in the future. Stay Safe and look out for each other, Yours in Scouting The Oz Venture Team

03.01.2022 New Badge for the Australian Scout Medallion As of August 1 we will no longer be issuing the old Australian Scout Medallion badge or Green Cord. The badge and cord are no longer in production as part of the transition to the new program. We will instead be issuing Scouts that complete their Australian Scout Medallion with the new badge.
