07.01.2022 Dear members of the Monash Squash Club. The information below are from our past two emails. If you have not read or heard any of the latest message about COVID-19, please continue and read as these messages are extremely important. It has been a tense few days amongst the committee about coming to a final decision, it was extremely hard but we have to precautions to make sure everyone is safe. I personally want to thank the committee with their efforts for the past few days ...and how they handled the situation. It will be a tough time ahead of us but as long as we do the right things we can make an impact for the community to help stop the spread and slow things down. Take care members! Covid-19 update Today, the club have recieved the following instructions from Monash University: For those of you who have asked about the universities position whilst the University has an exemption to remain open for the minute you would note above that many non essential activities have been cancelled or postponed. For those few Clubs still contemplating offering activities on and off campus your Club needs to ensure that the social distancing requirements of a 1.5m gap between all participants at all times. If that minimum requirement cannot be met then you need to cancel the activity. As specified by our VC in an update late yesterday this is a mandatory requirement for any University entity activity to follow with no exceptions and is not optional! Unfortunately this means we have to cease all competitive squash immediately to comply with these new mandatory requirements. The committee is in consultation with Monash Uni to determine whether or not practice sessions can remain open (in some very limited fashion) or not. We'll provide further updates once we have more information. For team captains that were supposed to play pennant this week, please inform the team that you were meant to play against that as of today our club has ceased all competitive squash until further notice. Covid-19 update #2 With the mandatory 1.5m gap restrictions in place it's no longer practical to play squash and as such all training sessions are now suspended until further notice. At this stage it's not known how long the restrictions will stay in place. The committee will be eagerly awaiting any news from Monash University and we'll resume normal operations as soon as we get the green light. Student trial memberships As it's no longer possible to proceed with the scheduled student trial memberships, we'll be changing this program to be available all year round. That is, student trial memberships will be valid for two weeks from the registration date. For students that have already registered for a trial membership, your membership period will begin from when you come to your first practice session and will expire after two weeks. Thanks, Squash Club Committee
