A L L P R O C E E D S are going to the Sutton Family! Here is Kate's story... My name is Kate Sutton. I feel blessed to have been put forward as a recipient for your fundraiser. Our home was taken on the first day of the severe Bobin fire. I was renting from a good friend who had built the home himself. I left early with my 3 daughters thinking I was being silly. As we left, the trailer (mostly empty except for a cage with our 6 chickens in it and a suitcase of clothes each) got a flat tyre. As I was already having car problems I left the car running while I changed the tyre and when we got to town, the car stopped and wouldn’t start again so I feel very lucky. Strangely, where I changed the tyre ended up being the same spot the fire first crossed the road a short time later. I had asked the kids to pack a ‘go bag’ several weeks earlier with some of their favourite most cherished items in the event of us having to leave but in the confusion of the event my youngest (Jada’s) was some how forgotten and left behind . I haven’t cried much - to my own frustration but a tear entered my eye as I wrote that. We also carried our cat, dog and rabbit to safety that day. I am a single mum with 3 daughters Zoe 12, Tyler 10 and Jada 8. I grew up in this community, went to the Bobin school that was lost as my 3 girls did and was working as the cleaner there, my only means of employment in the tiny remote community. Sadly our suffering has been shared with many friends and community members whom I have known for many years. We have been making regular visits to donations centres and are overwhelmed by the generosity of the multitude of donators and volunteers. Covering all of our basic immediate needs very doggedly and efficiently. We were quickly offered a place to stay by a friend of a friend who was going overseas for few months and wanted to be of assistance to an impacted family. She even told us to eat what was in the fridge! So we have until February some breathing space to pull ourselves together. I guess that brings you up to date with us though you have certainly brightened our day today. Here are some pics of us. I look forward to corresponding with you into the future.
