25.01.2022 I have studied economics, law, personnel management, psychology and hold a BA degree from the Australian National University with a triple major in human sciences, anthropology and South Asian (Indian) studies. I was a Certified Financial Planner with over thirty years’ experience in financial planning and investment strategy. I am a graduate of Coach U and the Graduate School of Coaching and have practiced as a life coach for more than ten years, specialising in money and sm...all business coaching. My studies and training helped me understand the power and the limitations associated with paradigms (a way of looking at the world). Once we understand that there are unlimited ways of looking at the world and others, we open up to tremendous freedom in our thinking and actions. Also, understanding paradigms increases our tolerance and reduces our prejudice and ability to be manipulated by others. My spiritual practice provides me with great support in all areas of my life. I have owned my own businesses for more than forty years in a variety of fields. Along the way I have also lived a self-sufficient lifestyle in the Australian bush and hand built a mud brick house. My businesses are based upon several important principles: * Working smarter rather than harder. Michael Gerber says to work on your business, rather than in your business * To have a great business and a great life outside business * This means having well developed, robust and efficient business systems * It also means hiring and retaining excellent staff * Using technology to make life easier and more effective * That it’s more effective to improve something that already works, rather than to reinvent the wheel * All of this allows me to leverage my time using a combination of business systems, staff and technology and a process of continual improvement. This means that I have a life which: * Allows me to have a one day work week * Enables me to have about twelve weeks of holidays each year * Gives me the time and flexibility to be with my family and friends * Gives me time for music (playing, listening and watching) meditation, yoga, travel, exploring, , dancing, mountain bike riding, kayaking, walking and basically enjoying the beautiful natural environment that surrounds me * Brings me a great income * Allows me learn, grow and develop * Gives me the opportunity to be a financial and small business coach, which benefits my clients as well as being very satisfying and great fun.

24.01.2022 The Physics of Productivity: Newton’s Laws of Getting Stuff Done In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton published his groundbreaking book, Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, which described his three laws of motion. In the process, Newton laid the foundation for classical mechanics and redefined the way the world looked at physics and science. What most people don’t know, however, is that Newton’s three laws of motion can be used as an interesting analogy for increasing your p...Continue reading

23.01.2022 How to Get Your Budget Under Control Are you a chronic overspender? 19.01.2022 Consumers warned as controversial short-term lender Cigno changes name to MyFi. Consumer groups are warning borrowers that two related short-term money-lending companies that charged fees of up to almost 1,000 per cent of the initial loan, and are being investigated by the corporate regulator the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), are operating under a new name. Company search records show Cigno and Gold-Silver Standard Finance are now operating under th...e name MyFi. It is now proposing to use a new power to restrict the companies' operations. "We've seen contracts by these new companies that appear to be operating in a similar way to Cigno or Gold-Silver Standard finance did," Patrick Sloyan of the Consumer Action Law Centre told 7.30. Jordan Smith took out a $250 loan through the Cigno website in order to buy Christmas presents for his children. "At the time I thought I was going to be able to make it," he told 7.30. "But I was wrong about that." Already deeply in debt, the 22-year-old Sydney factory worker missed repayment deadlines and the amount owing has now blown out to more than $1,000. "When I did make repayments, it became very hard to buy food, and pay for rent and all that, so we fell behind in a lot of that as well," Mr Smith said. "You've got no chance of catching up it just becomes a nightmare." What he did not realise at the time was that Cigno operated outside the National Credit Code. That is because Cigno does not actually lend the money it arranges for a fast-track loan through a related company, Gold-Silver Standard Finance and both companies charge fees for their services.

17.01.2022 Working too hard and need a break? Sometimes it’s obvious we need a break, but in most cases we figure it out too late. When you work double-digit hours and Sundays are no longer a day of rest, feeling overworked can become the new normal. Even so you’ll eventually hit a wall, and when that happens it can take days and even weeks to recover the enthusiasm, creativity, and motivation you’ve lost. Fortunately a few of the same techniques endurance athletes use to detect the nee...Continue reading

11.01.2022 Happiness at work Happiness. Countless books try to help you achieve it. Research demonstrates that you are more productive with it. And yet the truth is that so few people feel it at work. Why? Is it because leaders don’t create happy workplaces? Is it because work is inherently miserable? Or perhaps it’s because of our attitudes about work? There’s really no definitive answer here.... A negative boss, bad working conditions or a toxic culture can certainly make people unhappy. I’ve also seen how leaders can create happier and more productive employees by creating the right culture and work environment. However, I believe the biggest determinant of our happiness at work is us. Our happiness has less to do with forces outside of us and more to do with what’s inside of us. Happiness is an inside job. Our happiness comes not from the work we do but from how we feel about the work we do. I’ve met bus drivers, cleaners and fast-food employees who are more passionate about their jobs and happier than some professional people earning ten times what they do. The way we think about work, feel about work and approach our work influences our happiness at work. We can be happier by focusing on what we GET TO do instead of what we HAVE TO do. We can realize that the ability to work is a gift, not an obligation. We can enjoy our jobs more by creating a new measuring stick. Instead of comparing ourselves to others we can measure ourselves against our own growth and potential. Each day we can come to work with the mindset that today we will be better than we were yesterday and tomorrow we will be better than we are today. We can also enhance our happiness by tuning out negativity. Gandhi said, I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet, and neither should we. Instead of listening to the negative voices let us focus on our positive choices. We can’t drive someone else’s bus. We can’t control someone else’s attitude but we can control our mindset. Our job is to drive our bus and make it great. If we focus on the positive and tune out the negative our happiness will soar. Finally, we can energize our jobs by working for a bigger purpose. The research shows we are most energized when we are using our strengths and talents for a bigger purpose beyond ourselves. Every job will get old and mundane (if we let it). But purpose keeps it fresh. Purpose fuels us. When we work for a bigger purpose we find an endless supply of happiness at work. It’s often allusive but very attainable. Best of all, we decide how happy we want to be. So whether we are delivering happiness, opening happiness, sharing happiness, or creating it, remember that happiness is an inside job that you can bring to work today!
