The Interest that accrues each month during the deferred payment time will be added to the principal balance of your mortgage. The interest that is charged during the period the mortgage is deferred will also incur interest of its own when it is added back onto your loan. At the end of the deferral, some banks are offering you the choice of either increasing your repayments to retain the original loan ...period or extending the loan by the amount of time your mortgage was deferred for and keeping your repayment amount the same. A mortgage deferral is a great lifeline for those who are unable to make their usual home loan repayments in this current climate, but its imperative to remember it will cost you more money in the long run. Also remember it is important to ensure you understand clearly all of the conditions set out by YOUR bank before entering into a deferral. Not everyone will be eligible for deferral payments.
