25.01.2022 The fires didnt give our bees much of a chance to gather honey last summer, so we are giving them loads of feed to carry them through winter. An interesting fact about honey: it contains polyphenols that can significantly improve the memory-related functions of the brain. It counters deficits in recall functions and induces memory formation at the molecular level. #bees #savethebees #honeybees #organic #healthy #beekeeping #honeybee #honey

25.01.2022 Not the best trait for someone who has a bush farm as her primary business! #sleep #goodmorning #stayinbed #morning #morningperson

25.01.2022 If you stopped spending money at the local grocery store next week, they wouldnt even notice. If you took a small fraction of that money and spent it at the farmers market, you would help a local farmer pay his bills - you may even save his business. 24.01.2022 Recently discovered on instagram @place_names_in_addresses - there is a strong call going out, which we absolutely support, for Australia Post to include the original place name as an official part of the address field in Aussie addresses. Most address labels have an option for a second field, so you can start doing it today to raise awareness. A map can be purchased through https://aiatsis.gov.au//a/aiatsis-map-indigenous-australia ... Join the movement and start including the original place name on your mail!

22.01.2022 Show friends and family your flair this weekend with a gourmet brunch. A simple mustard sauce can be made by mixing a little wholegrain mustard with creme fraiche or water to get the right consistency, and be sure to use fresh locally sourced eggs ... Apart from the fact that they tast and look devine, did you know that free range fresh from the farm eggs have less cholesterol, contain the right kind of fat and have more vitamins than conventional eggs?

19.01.2022 The farm version of a trail of breadcrumbs ... unfortunately the trail ends at the tree so I still don’t know where he is !

19.01.2022 Dont overlook the humble zucchini as a delicious addition to any gourmet dish ... lightly grilled goats cheese, zucchini sprinkled with paprika, decorated with a sprig of rosemary and drizzled with good quality olive oil ... #healthy #food #instafood #foodie #recipe

18.01.2022 A simple and delicious snack to impress your friends ... in a pan warm some good quality oil, two bay leaves, a clove of freshly crushed garlic, a sprinkling of smoked paprika, 3 slices of lemon peel, 1 x small red crushed chilli and a spring of thyme ... add the olives, shake for a minute or so until the olives have warmed and then serve in a warm dish. Definitely moreish! We source as much as we can from local farmers markets and local food producers - look out for Olimia Certified Organic Olive oil direct from a local grove in Captains Flat and fresh Braidwood garlic! #olimia #aminya #braidwoodgarlic #farmersmarkets #buylocal # #food #oliveoil #foodie #healthy #tapas #mediterraneanfood #mongarlowegourmet #mongarlowevalley

18.01.2022 Hoping for a good crop of garlic this year! A long-term study, involving more than 1,000 healthy female twins, found that those whose dietary habits included plenty of fruit and vegetables, particularly alliums such as garlic, had fewer signs of early osteoarthritis in the hip joint. Not that we needed a reason to enjoy garlic, but good to know anyway! #arthritis #garlic #osteoarthritis #health

17.01.2022 You may remember this happy young man from one of our previous posts - this is Sebastian and he is going to be your inspiration to get fit. Seb has cerebal palsy and he is working helping us by growing his own vegetables from the seeds we send him, and helping us create inclusive instructions. This will help other people with disability learn how to grow their own vegetables or perhaps gain meaningful employment in the horticultural industry. September is STEPtember month wh...ere you can raise money for cerebal palsy simply by counting your steps ... even housework counts! We are inviting you to join our team https://www.steptember.org.au/fundraiser/waggingtails and use it as a great excuse to build your health. Plus we know a lot of people are out of work at the moment, and the $25 joining fee is difficult to find at the moment, so we are giving away 2 free entry fees to join our team ... just follow @mongarlowegourmet or @waggingtailscommunity on instagram and type "yes please" in the comments. 17.01.2022 When you were planning to have spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and guests drop in unannounced ... entree covered, now for mains!

17.01.2022 A delicious and healthier alternative to chips that your guests will love - cut sweet potato into thin strips, toss with some quality olive oil, ground pepper and finely grated parmesan, place in a single layer on baking paper and bake for around 15 minutes each side in a hot oven. Serve sprinkled with fresh parsley or sesame seeds and serve "fish and chip style" on crinkled baking paper with your favourite sauce. Sweet potato has more fiber, fewer carbohydrates, fewer calories, and more vitamins, compared to the white potato. Make sure your dish is packed full of flavour by sourcing your olive oil and vegetables from your local markets. #organic #farmfresh #fresh #oliveoil #sweetpotato #recipe #frenchfries

16.01.2022 Our humble lettuce thrives through the frost. An interesting fact: one of the oldest benefits of lettuce, known as far back as medieval times and confirmed in scientific studies, is its ability to induce sleep. The white milky substance you see within the leaves and in some varieties when you break off the leaf at the base, is lactucarium, which helps you relax and enhances your sleep quality. This substance shares a similar structure to opium, without the harmful side effects! #sleeping #sleepy #organic #wellness #cleaneating #healthylifestyle #lettuce #foodasmedicine #gardening #gardenlife

16.01.2022 Carefully nurtured golden seal seedlings. This popular but rare herb contains berberine, and can reduce inflammation, boost the immune system and help fight cancer among many other benefits. #wellness #herbs #health #holistichealing #herbalist #goldenseal

15.01.2022 Fresh from the garden spinach and early season tomatoes with olive oil, fresh chilli, cracked pepper and of course fresh delicious Australian prawns. Yum! #recipe #food #foodie #instafood #cooking #foodstagram #healthy

14.01.2022 Our baby nectarine tree is in bloom! This hardy little tree survived drought and fires and is now safely living in our glasshouse ready to support our new stock of vanilla bean orchids. Apart from tasting awesome, nectarines contain mostly soluble fibre, which, as per a report by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, can aid weight loss. The fiber achieves this by converting water into a gel-like substance in the intestines, which then prevents the cholesterol and fats from being absorbed into the blood. This contributes to healthy weight loss. Soluble fiber also reduces bad cholesterol in the body. #garden #plants #flowers #gardens #gardenlife #nature #gardenlove #nectarine

13.01.2022 Of course, on a bush farm, not everything goes to plan. Despite an impressive fence around our garlic patch, it appears one of the local critters needed garlic for their dinner last night and borrowed some of ours! #Garlic #foodie #dinner #animal #australianwildlife #wallaby #wombat #cockatoo #australianbirds #bushfarm #vegetables #gardening

12.01.2022 Starters dont need to be complicated - a fresh seasonal salad with good quality olive oil and toasted local baked sourdough provides a refreshing start. The only mistake you can make is buying the produce from a chain store instead of sourcing it from your local farmer or farmers market. #gourmet #recipe #farmersmarkets #bakery

10.01.2022 We love bok choy because it is quick and easy to grow, quick and easy to cook, and quick and easy to serve like a true gourmet chef ... blanch your bok choy for 20-30 seconds only, and drizzle with a sauce made up of 1 tablespoon oyster sauce,1 tablespoon water, 1/4 teaspoon good quality oil, 1/2 teaspoon sugar or substitute, and a dash of white pepper. #chinesefood #asianfood #foodlover #healthy #organic #foodie #cooking #eat

05.01.2022 Yes you can grow a potted olive tree indoors .... this little tree was grown from a seed and sits in my office. It took over a month of nurturing to get the first shoot from the soil, and is now ready to be moved to a larger pot. I just need to wait another 7 years for it to start bearing fruit and a mere 65 years for it to become a stable food producer! Fortunately this tree is being grown for future generations and isnt part of our bush farm production plan! #oliveoil #foodie #instafood #olives #greekcuisine #mediterranean #feastagram #greekkitchen #italian #instagood #tapas #dubaifoodies #mediterraneanfood #longwait #patience #futuregenerations #foodforthefuture

05.01.2022 Gourmet is never difficult if you start off with really fresh ingredients - thats where your local farmers market adds value! A fresh baguette (we love #dojobread in Braidwood) topped with avocado smashed with lemon and seasoning, then add fresh seasonal vegetables - try radish, cucumber and wasabi rocket, or fresh tomato for light finger food that is bound to impress. #cooking #foodstagram #feedfeed #food #foodie #instafood #recipe #foodlover #allnatural #recipe

04.01.2022 Perfecting our latest offerings for our gift bags ... take organic, ethically sourced dark chocolate ....add crushed coffee beans or truffle infused coconut .... pour into an ultra cute wombat chocolate mold and taste test ..... yum! #delicious #chocolate #wombat #coffee #gifts

03.01.2022 Its not a farm without a tractor! Shes old but still has plenty of life in her. Thank you to Braidwood local Dennis Dempsey for making sure it was fit for purpose for us.

03.01.2022 The trick to cooking good seafood is simple - make sure everything is fresh and local ...not just the seafood but also the vegetables and herbs - dont overcook - and keep it simple. In cooking, less is definitely more. #foodie #instafood #restaurant #chefsofinstagram #dinner #delicious #seafood #buylocal #farmersmarkets #gourmetfoodie #gourmet

02.01.2022 Sick of boring breakfasts? Smash avocado with a squeeze of lemon and a little grated parmesan, season with salt and pepper, top with spinach leaves (preferably from your own garden or the farmers markets) and drizzle with just a little quality olive oil. Delicious and really easy! #organic #eatlocal #shoplocal #foodie #farmfresh #farmersmarkets #recipes #cooking #delicious

02.01.2022 Even though the precise origin of limes is uncertain, wild limes are believed to have first grown in Indonesia or Southeast Asia, and then were transported to the Mediterranean region and north Africa around 1000 CE. our little lime tree of course hasnt been around that long, but it has managed to survive several long frosts and a drought! It was used to manage scurvy because of its high vitamin C content, but I much prefer it in a magarita! ;) #cocktails #margarita #cocktail #mexico #mixology #lime

01.01.2022 The secret to good gourmet food is not the complexity of the meal, but the simplicity of it. Skip the supermarkets and chain stores and select from local growers and farmers markets where you can be assured the food is straight from the garden and is packed full of flavour. Or better still ...try growing your own! Its easy, and a great experience. #gourmet #food #foodporn #foodlover #delicious #supportlocal #gourmetlife

01.01.2022 My beautiful native apple seedling - gently being nurtured on our window sill until it is big enough to survive outdoors.
