24.01.2022 Some months ago I was in a dark place, struggling and feeling quite alone. I met up with @hugabitquilts and, while waiting for her to arrive, chatted with the lovely local cafe owner of @mementocafe. He wrote me a little note of a quote he had seen on Instagram. Its been something Ive kept with me as an encouragement when Ive needed a little boost. Im so grateful for these friends and so many other friends in my life who give me a little glimpse of light, a spark, when I cant see it myself.

18.01.2022 Eucalyptus leaves are something that I never get tired of drawing; I have a little sketchbook dedicated just to eucalypt leaves. This postcard is for the staff at my partners work, who have good humouredly passed along many postcards to Damien. It reads: When Damien and I first started dating we were long distance, and I used to draw the things from my everyday life as a way of keeping in touch while he was away. Now that we live together, it seems crazy that Im still sending him little visual love letters, but the habit has become something of a precious tradition. 14.01.2022 You dont always need expensive gear to make good art. I mean its nice and perhaps it helps a little, but sometimes the best stuff just... happens.

14.01.2022 Worth every one of the (significant number of) dollars I paid for them when I first took up machine sewing about 5 or 6 years ago. When you buy quality tools, you need never buy them again. Im reading Curing Affluenza at the moment, and my only criticism is that Id love to see more micro than macro suggestions and ideas in it, but the main idea thats jumped out at me is this: if we are to look after our planet we need to stop buying shit we dont need, and investing in t...hings that will last, and can be repaired, rather than discard and replace. If a new pair of shears would cost me the same as having these repaired or sharpened, in the past I would have just bought new shears. But now, Im thinking differently: if I can invest that money into *people*, into a service provided by a repairer, rather than creating more waste, it serves a double function: supporting people by creating employment/pay opportunities, and reducing waste. #buyless #minimalism #curingaffluenza #sewing #quality #canaryscissors #softcanary See more
