22.01.2022 When we grew up here we could buy a huuuuge bucket of fish and feed as much as we liked to our dolphin friends. We could also pat them and swim with them. Wha...t we didn’t know was that we were loving them to death. Because the mother dolphins were getting all the food they needed they didn’t teach their babies to hunt and so we had an almost 90% fatality rate of our young dolphins. These days only around five of the 2000 dolphins in our family receive provisions and it is strictly monitored by our awesome rangers. Most will only get around 10% of their daily requirement and Mothers with babies will get even less to encourage them to teach their babies to hunt. We now have a completely healthy dolphin family. We also now understand that dolphins can catch diseases like K9 Distemper and other bacterial infections from contact with humans. Our lotions and sunscreens breakdown the healthy natural skin of dolphins making it easier for them to become infected. We KNOW how hard it is to resist showing the dolphins you love them with a friendly stroke of your hand, but if you TRULY love them then offer them a kind word and a smile and don’t apply sunscreen to your legs before the morning dolphin interactions. All that sunscreen in the water for them is like shampoo in your eyes when you shower. The more comfortable our beautiful dolphins are, the more likely they are to come and say hello to you!

21.01.2022 Wow! Way to go guys! What an awesome place we live!

21.01.2022 For those recreational fishing families heading north to our World Heritage Listed home this school holidays please consider this..One tonne a DAY of offal on average our shire is taking from these tables (not taking into account Monkey Mia, Gladstone, Steep Point or Dirk Hartog fish getting landed) That’s 365 000 kilos a year conservatively. The average filleter gets about 30% boneless fillet recovery from the fish. That means that we are looking at CONSERVATIVELY over one... MILLION kilos of whole fish (mostly demersal endemic reef species) being taken from our home this year.. A three month demersal fishing BAN has just kicked off in the south west of our state (to protect all of their local reefs fish stocks) which means EVERY West Aussie recreational fisherman and his dog will be headed our way to fill their freezer soon.. we don’t need a twelve month study by fisheries as to the impact of this on our reefs, they have already publicly stated we will be seeing localised depletion of fish stocks in our home due to this covid based unprecedented surge in tourism. We need ACTION. Halve the fillet possession limit NOW!! Also should we really be having a fishing fiesta next year? Do we REALLY need to encourage MORE fishing in our World Heritage Listed Marine Park home? Not if we are fishing for the future. Reports just in of large quantities of undersized fish being processed at Big Lagoon and the carcasses buried.. how can TWO Fisheries officers ever hope to enforce such a huuuuuuge area? Especially when the government closed their local Denham office!! Sad times for Shark Bay. See more

21.01.2022 This is little Summer. He is 18 months old. Here he is trying to catch a whiting using a foraging technique called coastal foraging. He learnt this off his mum ...Eden. Summer can’t learn these skills or practice them if people are in the water. Therefore if you see the dolphins in the shallows you must exit the water completely. If you are on a sup or paddleboard stay 50m away. This is state legislation. Then Summer has the best chance to catch his fish and a better chance of survival once he is weaned. Thank you on behalf of Summer and Eden and all the coastal foraging dolphins. See more

10.01.2022 The famous Italian diver Enzo Mallorca dove into the sea of Syracuse and was talking to his daughter Rossana who was aboard the boat. Ready to go in, he felt something slightly hit his back. He turned and saw a dolphin. Then he realized that the dolphin did not want to play but to express something. The animal dove and Enzo followed. At a depth of about 12 meters, trapped in an abandoned net, there was another dolphin. Enzo quickly asked his daughter to grab the diving kn...ives. Soon, the two of them managed to free the dolphin, which, at the end of the ordeal, emerged, issued an "almost human cry" (describes Enzo). (A dolphin can stay under water for up to 10 minutes, then it drowns.) The released dolphin was helped to the surface by Enzo, Rosana and the other dolphin. That’s when the surprise came: she was pregnant! The male circled them, and then stopped in front of Enzo, touched his cheek (like a kiss), in a gesture of gratitude and then they both swam off. Enzo Mallorca ended his speech by saying: Until man learns to respect and speak to the animal world, he can never know his true role on Earth." ~ Vangelis.

02.01.2022 MASK REMINDER FOR THE REGIONS The head of policing in the Midwest and Gascoyne is reminding people arriving in the area from Perth and Peel that they have ...to continue wearing a mask this week. Superintendent Roger Beer says traffic stops have found compliance with COVID travel rules has been good. But he says while it's not possible to check everyone after they've arrived from Perth, they do still need to wear masks in public places.
