15.01.2022 WOW, our Writing Bundle (Pre-writing and alphabet cards) have been going like hot cakes during lockdown.. so I thought I'd share some fun ways for your monkeys to use them, but really this activity is perfect for all ages. Simple and fun way for them to learn how to copy, create lines swirls, zig zags, write letters and numbers. You can also do this activity with your school aged children and get them to practise their sight words and spelling . Sensory writing tray...s encourage our kids to explore, create, build, learn and play in meaningful, fun, and hands-on ways. Tag us @monkeymindsau if you are game enough to give this one a go...trust me, the kids will have a ball, but just make sure you have some paper towel handy

07.01.2022 TOP TIP TUESDAY Is your child heading off to school next year? How are you feeling? I feel like I had an 'epiphany' moment today... like 'holy moly....MY daughter goes to school next year' after reading the flyer from the local primary school inviting us to info nights and school tours.... Ok, obviously I know she is, she's in 4 yo kinder...derrrr..... but it seriously feels like she's still 3 Anyway.... If you've had your little WHATTTTT??? How is my BABY...ready for school next year? ' moment and you're not sure if they're ready...or you think they are ready but you want to do all you can to support them over the next 9 months??? Then this post is for you! How can you prepare your child for school? As mums we want to make sure we are doing our absolute best in getting our little ones ready for school. We want them to be confident and resilient so that they will hit the ground running and have a positive experience! And as a teacher, I know there are lots of things that we, as parents, can be doing at home to help get our child ready for school. And it's not tracing letters and not learning how to count to 100. Here are some day-to-day ideas you can be doing: 1. Talking with your child about school and what it will be like 2. Visiting the school and reflecting on what it was like 3. Reading books about starting school (I'll be sharing some good ones with you soon) If you don't know what your child needs to know for school, check out our FREE school readiness checklist. I have provided you with a series of questions you can answer so you can truly KNOW they will be ready, or alternatively what else you can do to support their transition. Click the link below to grab yours today! https://www.monkeyminds.com.au/free-school-readiness-check/ If you want to be extra certain your child is ready for school, did you know we run a School Readiness Program? 04.01.2022 I know I've shared this before, but each night at the dinner table we go around and share something that made us happy in the day, and something we did to make someone else happy. Tonight Tegan was proud of herself for coming 5th in her Cross Country today and that Lily and I were there cheering her on. Lily said "Snuggling on the couch with you watching a movie, oh and going to Acro kids...that made me really happy" ... So tonight as I sit back writing a speech for my Pa's 80th birthday tomorrow, I am feeling very lucky. Not many people at age 33 still have grandparents alive, let alone have the opportunity to speak at their 80th. I am so grateful for my family, their health and love. Tell me something that you are grateful for

03.01.2022 Some people who have been following along for a while will know that I am I am not perfect, my life is not all sunshine and rainbows behind my social media posts and emails. I am just like you, a mum who would do anything for their children to make sure they are happy, safe and have the best opportunities in life. I am also a mum trying to sift her way through the hail storm that the COVID-19 has created. ... This is new for ALL OF US! No one has lived through this before, so we are all trying to piece it together the best way we know how. I understand some of you may feel overwhelmed, worried, uncertain and confused...it's ok, because I do too. I've had many people make the comment - 'at least you are a teacher, you know what you're doing.' They are right - yes, I have the educational knowledge and I am here to share that with you - I am in this with you! So I have created a Facebook group for mums who: feel like you need support to get your head around what 'crisis schooling/homeschooling' will look like for you need inspiration on how to get your kids to play independently need support on how to modify activities for different abilities rely on screen time to entertain your kids don't have time to find things for your kids to do. It doesn't have to overwhelming or impossible, it can and should be easy and simple! We are all doing our best out of a very shitty situation. If you would like to join a group with like minded mums who can support, uplift and cast no judgment, then click the link below - I'd love to see you on the inside xx https://www.facebook.com/groups/monkeymindssavesyoursanity/
