Closing your eyes adds an extra layer blocking oxygen to your cornea, and germs love any environment that’s dark and moist. 24.01.2022 Stigma? Stigmata? No no. Astigmatism. Everyone’s heard about astigmatism, but what actually is it? Astigmatism isn’t a scary disease, it's actually quite common! It refers to how light bends when it comes into the eye. Because the eye is generally a spherical shaped structure, if it’s not perfectly spherical, then light scatters when it comes into the eye. The amount you can claim depends on what level of cover you have and if you’ve got extras. Most health funds pay between $100 and $300 towards glasses and/or contacts lenses. 14.01.2022 I can’t have contacts because I have astigmatism, my eyes are shaped funny. Not true. But I need glasses for distance AND reading, surely I can’t wear contacts. Wrong again! Studies show that smoking increases risk of age-related macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and glaucoma. People who smoke regularly are also more likely to develop age-related macular degeneration as compared to non-smokers.
